Position Overview
We seek a Director of Safety and Security to manage our School Security division at a client site based in St. Louis, Missouri. This director role supports the district's commitment to providing excellent education by ensuring the safety and security of all students, staff, and property. The director will create and implement programs and services designed to maintain a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Incident Commander during all emergency situations.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the school and local police, fire departments, and other emergency agencies.
- Be available around the clock to respond to or coordinate responses to safety, security, and weather emergencies.
- Oversee and manage up to 10 Campus Safety Officers.
- Provide expert advice on security and crime issues and stay updated with best practices.
- Develop and enforce department policies aligned with federal/state laws, school board policies, and contractual agreements.
- Lead investigations into criminal activities or internal incidents.
- Plan and conduct mandatory school drills including lockdowns, evacuations, and severe weather.
- Exemplify professional and ethical conduct when interacting with students, parents, school personnel, and external agencies.
- Advise on safety aspects during new construction or renovations in collaboration with architects and builders.
- Co-manage the Safety and Security budget with school administration to ensure effective and economical resource use.
- Participate in threat assessments involving students, faculty, and staff.
- Manage security functions such as entry/exit control, weapons abatement, screening gates, wanding, and enforcement of no-trespassing.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant regulations and contract obligations.
- Execute other duties as assigned by the National Director of Security or their delegate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum three years of supervisory experience including management and evaluation of staff.
- At least three years of experience in administrative roles and program development, preferably in education settings.
- A minimum of five years of relevant safety and security experience, especially managing security technology systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (degree can substitute for up to two years of experience).
- Capability to perform effectively in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
- Self-sufficient and dependable in independent work scenarios.
- Sound judgment with the ability to multitask and prioritize efficiently.
- Strong communication skills for presenting information and training to diverse audiences.
- Outstanding organizational skills paired with integrity and professionalism.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Availability for prompt response in emergencies, crises, or severe weather conditions.
- Proficient in managing access control, video monitoring, and visitor management systems.
