Job description
About the Role
A well-established, family-owned commercial cleaning and facilities maintenance company based in Raleigh, NC, is looking to hire a Director of Operations to helm the daily leadership of their operations. Reporting directly to ownership, this executive role focuses on creating scalable systems, processes, and team structures that will sustain continued company growth. This position presents the prospect of advancement into broader leadership roles as the business expands further.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong hands-on operational leadership experience in blue-collar, high-turnover sectors, and be adept at bringing methodical structure to a rapidly growing enterprise without impeding service delivery.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop and roll out scalable, repeatable operational processes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to replace inconsistent, founder-driven problem solving approaches.
- Lead the operations team responsible for nighttime service, coaching them to become more autonomous and effective decision-makers.
- Oversee account-specific Profit & Loss (P&L) statements, keeping track of budgets, sales targets, and profit margins for a diversifying collection of commercial, industrial, and light manufacturing clients.
- Lead the overhaul of the company’s account-level P&L process, transitioning it from a manual and informal system into a scalable, trainable model.
- Collaborate with ownership to evaluate and potentially restructure the operations and account management hierarchy to support team growth.
- Source, recommend, and implement technology and software solutions for scheduling, reporting, and team communications, thereby boosting operational efficiencies across various job sites.
- Travel occasionally to Charlotte and Florida-based markets and participate in industry conferences as a company representative.
- Communicate clearly and build trust with a largely Spanish-speaking frontline workforce.
- Promote strong client service standards, swiftly resolving account-level issues to nurture long-term client loyalty in commercial, industrial, and light manufacturing sectors.
- Work alongside ownership on strategic initiatives like market expansion and establishment of account-based Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive the company’s next phase of growth.
Required Qualifications
- At least 7 years in operations leadership roles within facilities maintenance, janitorial, or similar service industries.
- Proven, hands-on experience in designing and implementing SOPs and scalable operational procedures from inception.
- Willingness to work in the field, including outside regular business hours, to deeply understand operational challenges before instituting changes.
- Familiarity with P&L management, budgeting, margin analysis, and pricing strategies; proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets required, though advanced financial expertise is not mandatory.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly desirable.
- Self-motivated individual comfortable managing their own workflow and autonomy.
- Preferably holds a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations management, or a related discipline.
Performance Goals Within First 90 Days
- Conduct a comprehensive tour of all company job sites to establish strong working connections with frontline supervisors and account teams.
- Provide a detailed evaluation highlighting operational strengths and areas needing improvement.
- Start the introduction of standardized SOPs to minimize dependence on informal, founder-led issue resolution.
