Director of Operational Excellence, Pharmacy - Health System Operations

Position Overview

Reporting to the President, COO, and leaders in Operational Excellence & Business Innovation, this role partners with Mount Sinai Health System Pharmacy leadership to spearhead strategic operational priorities. It aims to integrate efforts across various care sites and enhance the efficiency, quality, and overall performance of pharmacy service lines.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with service line and health system leaders as well as frontline teams to formulate and implement initiatives improving operational efficiency, patient experience, safety, quality, and financial management.
• Coordinate with cross-departmental stakeholders including Pharmacy, Talent, Finance, and Clinical leadership to ensure projects are executed collaboratively.
• Manage the entire lifecycle of strategic initiatives from ideation through planning, execution, sustainability, and performance measurement.
• Implement change management strategies to facilitate adoption and longevity of improvement efforts.
• Maintain ownership of a portfolio of operational and strategic projects.
• Partner with system leadership in defining and detailing strategic project scopes and lead hands-on execution of initiatives.
• Support the update and development of overarching strategic plans for the pharmacy service line.
• Track key performance indicators related to operations, finance, quality, and workforce; devise corrective plans if targets fall short.
• Evaluate success and return on investment for all projects.
• Deliver regular performance and status reports to leadership and stakeholders.
• Cultivate a culture focused on continuous improvement by engaging staff and embedding excellence principles in daily activities.
• When needed, prepare operational or business plans to meet departmental goals successfully.
• Lead and manage team members, ensuring strategic initiatives are executed effectively.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree is mandatory; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Professional certifications such as PMP or Lean are desirable.
• Five to seven years of relevant experience in healthcare operations, administration, strategy, or consulting.
• Robust experience in healthcare operations in outpatient or inpatient settings, including diagnostic or procedural domains.
• Exceptional skills in project management and strategic planning.
• Ability to translate broad goals into actionable projects while attending to operational details.
• Proficiency in continuous improvement methodologies.
• Strong capabilities in data analysis and performance metric monitoring.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills at all organizational levels.

Additional Information

This full-time day role will be based onsite at Mount Sinai in New York City in a hybrid working environment. The salary range is approximately $140,000 to $230,000 annually, excluding bonuses and other benefits. Compensation considers experience, education, and need. The role resides within Health System Operations and is classified as non-union.
