Job description

Organization Overview

BC Green is a family-run cannabis producer based in Princeton, British Columbia, in the Okanagan-Similkameen Valley. The company is driven by a deep interest in this fast-changing industry and takes pride in delivering premium products to consumers. Its founders and cultivation leaders bring extensive cannabis expertise and are committed to exploring the full potential of these products.

Role Summary

BC Green is looking for an accomplished Director of Manufacturing to join its senior leadership group in Princeton, BC. Reporting to the President and Chief Operating Officer, this leader is responsible for the effectiveness, ability to scale, and day-to-day operational soundness of the manufacturing system, starting when cannabis is harvested from cultivation and continuing through to product completion and shipment readiness. The role ensures production functions as one connected system that consistently turns quality flower into finished goods at scale.

The Director of Manufacturing will guide the Senior Production Manager, define the operating direction for the manufacturing function, and strengthen the processes, infrastructure, and leadership depth needed to support BC Green’s ambition to set the worldwide benchmark for clean, affordable cannabis.

This is an on-site position in Princeton, BC, within an active manufacturing setting. Regular time on the production floor is an essential part of the job.

Core Responsibilities

  • Shape and own the manufacturing operating strategy, converting company goals into a coordinated production plan with clear performance targets, improvement priorities, and investment needs.
  • Lead the annual planning process for manufacturing, covering capacity, labour, and capital planning, and remain accountable for quarterly execution against that plan.
  • Track system performance across cost, product quality, grade retention, infrastructure uptime, and safety, and step in at the appropriate level when results drift from expectations.
  • Work closely with Cultivation, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams so that transitions are seamless, quality is safeguarded from harvest to shipment, and customer commitments are met reliably.
  • Identify, define, and drive improvement efforts that enhance reliability, output quality, cost performance, and long-term scalability across manufacturing and supporting infrastructure.
  • Lead safety and regulatory compliance standards across production, ensuring active workplace safety programs, Health Canada compliance, and GMP adherence, while fostering personal accountability for safe operations.
  • Coach and direct the Senior Production Manager through clear priorities, delegation, and accountability, while building leadership strength so the manufacturing system can run consistently without founder-level involvement.

Leadership Principles

  • Do It Right: Establish and maintain uncompromising standards for quality, safety, and compliance, with ownership embedded throughout the team instead of being enforced from the top.
  • Keep It Simple: Create and continuously streamline the manufacturing system by removing unnecessary complexity and avoiding processes that do not improve quality, cost, or reliability.
  • Build Strength: Leave the operation stronger over time by developing leaders, reducing key-person risk, improving infrastructure, and building dependable systems.
  • Play the Long Game: Make decisions about capital, people, and operations that strengthen durable capability and protect the company’s long-term position in the accessible premium cannabis market.

Experience & Expertise Required

The ideal candidate brings substantial manufacturing leadership experience, including leading managers across several functions, setting expectations, driving accountability for system-level results, and developing leadership capability in direct reports.

  • 10 or more years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing, including multi-function leadership through managers.
  • Background in manufacturing, production, operations, inventory, supply chain, or a similar operational discipline within a multi-function environment.
  • Ability to define strategy for an integrated manufacturing system, turn it into an annual operating plan, and deliver against it.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing economics, including cost per unit, labour productivity, throughput, grade preservation, and margin control.
  • Demonstrated success improving throughput, productivity, cost efficiency, and overall operating performance.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, operational transformation, scaling production, commissioning equipment, or modernizing operations.
  • Hands-on involvement in capital planning, budget creation, and escalation of material variances at a senior level.
  • Experience building and using manufacturing performance systems, including leading indicators, aggregate metrics, and data-driven decision-making at both operational and strategic levels.
  • Experience overseeing preventative maintenance and reliability programs, including building tools such as OEE frameworks or CMMS platforms from the ground up.
  • Track record of leading workplace safety programs and embedding a proactive safety culture in a regulated environment, including Health Canada or a comparable setting.
  • Strong business and financial judgment, with the ability to solve complex cross-functional issues, prioritize competing demands, and communicate clearly to executive leadership.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and leadership abilities, with integrity, sound judgment, and strong operational credibility.

Preferred Background

  • Experience in cannabis, food manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or another GMP-regulated manufacturing environment.
  • History of leading production scaling, equipment commissioning, or operational modernization projects.
  • Direct accountability for production operations or plant engineering within one organizational mandate.

Compensation & Benefits

The total rewards package for this role is designed to be thoughtful, competitive, comprehensive, and aligned with the importance of the position.

  • Annual salary between $140,000 and $170,000, depending on experience and skill set.
  • Extended health and dental coverage.
  • RRSP program.
  • Support for professional development.
