CRAFT Living is an innovative and rapidly expanding premium wood flooring company situated in Burnaby, British Columbia. Since its inception in 2002, the company has positioned itself as a reputable brand specializing in handcrafted engineered hardwood floors that combine natural aesthetics, design excellence, sustainable materials, and durability. Employing around 30 professionals and generating nearly $22 million in revenue annually, CRAFT Living services various clients including homeowners, designers, builders, retailers, and trade partners throughout North America. The company benefits from direct oversight of manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and product development through its joint ownership of an off-shore manufacturing facility.
Role Overview
We are looking for a seasoned Vice President of Operations to join our senior leadership in Burnaby, BC. This position will hold primary responsibility for overseeing daily business operations and acting as a key collaborator with the CEO. The initial focus will be on enhancing operational execution, leadership accountability, and business system efficiencies with plans to broaden its scope over time to more comprehensive operational management.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct daily business activities ensuring that strategic priorities translate into actionable operational plans.
- Implement and oversee operating rhythms, management frameworks, and accountability protocols to boost execution and decision-making efficiency.
- Align sales projections, inventory management, production scheduling, customer obligations, and operational capabilities.
- Manage product quality and warranty services by resolving customer concerns and addressing root causes utilizing feedback, claims data, and market trends to foster continuous improvement in products and services.
- Promote operational excellence by integrating Lean methodologies across manufacturing and operational workflows to improve productivity, quality, cost efficiency, and organizational strength.
- Enhance production throughput, streamline workflows, and optimize operational consistency.
- Improve forecasting accuracy and inventory planning to ensure product availability while minimizing excess capital investment.
- Collaborate with the CEO and suppliers to optimize lead times and ensure steady supply via international sourcing.
- Uphold quality standards and service levels that correspond with CRAFT Living’s premium market positioning.
- Develop leadership across operational roles by setting clear expectations, decision-making authority, performance metrics, and communication protocols.
- Mentor operating managers and supervisors to cultivate stronger leadership.
- Lead optimization projects related to SAP and associated business systems to improve data precision, reporting, and operational decision frameworks.
- Drive innovation by leveraging emerging digital tools and process enhancements to increase organizational performance and customer value.
- Contribute as part of the senior leadership team in strategic business planning and evaluation of risks, growth potential, capacity, and investment needs.
Qualifications and Expertise
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related fields; MBA or other relevant graduate degree preferred.
- Certifications or formal training in Lean, Six Sigma, PMP, supply chain management, or continuous improvement are advantageous.
- Over 15 years of progressive leadership within complex manufacturing or product environments such as flooring, wood products, millwork, or building materials with a focus on premium products emphasizing craftsmanship and operational efficiency.
- At least 8 years of senior leadership responsible for operational strategy, business outcomes, quality assurance, and capacity planning.
- Proven ability to utilize operational analytics, forecasting, and business intelligence for resource allocation and risk management.
- Demonstrated experience in leading functional leaders to enhance accountability, communication, decisions, and execution.
- Strong commercial acumen with the capacity to balance cost, quality, timeliness, customer service, and overall product value.
- Experience improving systems, processes, and planning to increase consistency, scalability, and organizational discipline.
- Leadership skills to define expectations, nurture talent, and guide teams through organizational growth and complexity.
- Effective collaboration with senior teams across sales, finance, administration, and customer service.
- Clear, credible communication abilities to drive structure and sound judgment in complex operational discussions.
- High standards of integrity and judgment, capable of earning trust within an established organization.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary ranges from $130,000 to $160,000 annually, determined by experience and qualifications.
- Eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus aligned with individual and company results.
- Participation in group RRSP with employer matching after two years of employment.
- Comprehensive benefits covering health, dental, vision, accidental death and dismemberment, life insurance, and long-term disability, with 70% of premiums paid by the employer.
