Director of Legal and Compliance

About the Role

MidAtlantic Finance seeks an experienced in-house attorney to serve as the Director of Legal and Compliance, requiring five to ten years of expertise in Commercial Litigation and regulatory compliance.

Key Duties

• Oversee a large portfolio of commercial dispute cases and contract enforcement issues.
• Lead strategies for pre-litigation including negotiations and settlements with opposing parties.
• Manage complete litigation processes, coordinating with outside legal counsel as needed.
• Formulate and implement recovery plans to optimize collections and reduce financial losses.
• Assess claims and defenses to decide between pursuing litigation or settlement options.
• Prepare and improve legal documents such as demand letters, pleadings, and strategy memoranda.
• Monitor and regulate external legal expenditures including budgeting and managing external law firms' performance.
• Supervise all regulatory compliance functions including team leadership and audit processes.
• Collaborate with company departments to detect risk trends and repeated counterparty conduct.

Required Experience and Expertise

• Knowledge of secured transactions, collateral recovery, or asset-backed lending.
• Experience with collections litigation or enforcement proceedings.
• Acquainted with handling litigation and judgment enforcement across multiple jurisdictions.
• Proficient in current regulatory compliance topics such as FCRA, FDCPA, privacy laws and similar regulations.
