About the Role

As a pivotal member of the Legal & Risk Management team, the Legal Counsel will provide legal guidance, focusing on litigation management and compliance. In this position, you will utilize your expertise to advise the organization, develop legal strategies, and mitigate operational risks throughout the firm. You'll be part of an environment that encourages innovation and the exploration of new approaches in the legal field, serving as a trusted internal advisor.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversee all stages of litigation on behalf of the firm, including initial assessment, formulating strategies, drafting legal documents, and conducting research.
  • Collaborate with external lawyers when necessary to resolve disputes efficiently on behalf of the firm.
  • Advise leaders and executive staff on legal matters as they arise.
  • Prepare clear, well-crafted legal documents and communications.
  • Investigate and analyze complex legal questions, providing actionable recommendations and solutions.
  • Foster effective relationships with stakeholders both inside and outside the organization, including outside counsel.
  • Participate in creating and refining legal policies as required.
  • Generate briefs and reports related to regulatory, compliance, and general legal issues to support organizational decision-making.
  • Contribute new ideas and processes that enhance legal operations and outcomes.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years’ experience practicing law after call, with an emphasis on litigation.
  • Previous in-house legal work is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of tax and accounting concepts is considered beneficial.
  • Proficiency in French is an asset.
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational communication abilities.
