Role Overview
The Director of Learning and Development is tasked with creating and managing Indigo U, a strategic initiative aimed at fostering a culture of continual learning. This role ensures employees acquire essential knowledge, skills, and capabilities that enhance both business outcomes and personal career advancement. The Director oversees the enterprise learning system, responsible for designing, delivering, governing, and refining learning programs across Home Office, Retail, and Distribution Centre divisions.

- High learner participation and course completion rates
- Positive quality, adoption, and usage statistics for Indigo U and related learning platforms

Principal Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior HR leader contributing to Indigo’s people strategy, aligning learning initiatives to support business growth and customer satisfaction.
- Lead the creation and launch of Indigo U, ensuring scalable, engaging, and data-driven learning experiences congruent with organizational priorities.
- Collaborate with senior management to identify capability gaps and translate findings into prioritized learning programs.
- Develop a multi-year learning roadmap with specific yearly targets that encompass leadership development, functional skills, onboarding, compliance, digital education, and career progression.
- Build and manage a high-performing Learning & Development team that adheres to clear standards of accountability and effectiveness.
- Establish precise success criteria and employ learning analytics to evaluate program effectiveness, engagement, knowledge retention, and business impact.
- Maintain awareness of emerging trends in learning technologies and leadership development to keep Indigo competitive and innovative.
- Identify critical future skills in partnership with HR and business leaders.
- Participate in annual planning, budgeting, and prioritization activities relating to the learning development portfolio.
- Design customized learning experiences and curricula grounded in adult learning theories, emphasizing practice, reinforcement, and application.
- Drive organizational change and adoption related to learning initiatives and capability programs.
- Create scalable development pathways suitable for frontline employees, leaders, and corporate teams.
Reporting and Key Relationships
Reports directly to the Chief People Officer with the CEO as the Manager once Removed. Internal partners include HR Business Partners, cross-functional leaders, and IT teams supporting learning systems and analytics. External contacts encompass learning vendors, content suppliers, and industry experts.
Qualifications
- 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in Learning & Development, leadership, or organizational capability building, preferably within a top-tier company.
- University degree in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, Adult Learning, or a related discipline.
- Comprehensive knowledge of enterprise-wide adult learning principles, instructional design, leadership development, and capability-building strategies.
- Proven experience crafting tailored learning curricula for frontline staff, corporate employees, and leadership levels.
- Proficiency with learning technologies, including LMS/LXP platforms, digital learning, and measurement frameworks for learning efficacy.
- A data-driven approach capable of transforming insights into actionable outcomes.
- Creativity and resilience in leadership and strategy execution.
