Position Overview
This full-time, onsite role in Portugal involves partnership with volunteer leaders and various internal stakeholders to lead strategy, design, and ongoing enhancement of EO’s leadership development initiatives. The Director will head the creation and delivery of leadership content and training programs aligned with EO’s strategic goals, ensuring leaders at all levels receive tools and resources to succeed. The role encompasses curriculum oversight, training lifecycle management, and collaboration to unify leadership development efforts worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the advancement and execution of EO’s leadership development framework that supports member leaders’ readiness and smooth leadership transitions across the organization.
- Define framework components and standards to enhance consistency and effectiveness of leadership experiences.
- Analyze leadership needs and convert them into scalable learning solutions, tools, and experiences promoting leadership adoption and performance.
- Establish measurement systems and feedback processes to evaluate the impact and continuously refine leadership programs.
- Collaborate with volunteer and organizational stakeholders to align leadership development priorities and ensure the curriculum meets diverse member needs globally.
- Manage virtual and in-person learning content and delivery, maintaining quality and consistency across multiple geographic regions.
- Coordinate cross-functional implementation of initiatives including scheduling, role definition, and communication to ensure successful delivery.
- Oversee vendor relationships and subject matter experts to deliver aligned, high-caliber training aligned with EO standards.
- Administer the learning management system and digital platforms to support learner engagement and track participation.
- Regularly review leadership programs through data analysis and course feedback, using insights to enhance program effectiveness.
Qualifications and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in education, organizational development, leadership, HR, business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Over 7 years of professional experience in leadership development, instructional design, or organizational development, including managing scalable learning programs.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to develop strategic learning solutions.
- Experienced in creating curricula and learning experiences for adults across various formats (virtual and in-person).
- Proficient in using learning technologies and LMS platforms to manage and evaluate programs.
- Experience operating in global, multicultural, matrix organizational environments.
- Willingness to travel internationally approximately 15% of the time, and flexibility in working hours to support a global audience.
- Deep knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design principles, facilitation techniques, and program evaluation methods.
- Competent in developing and assessing virtual courses across platforms.
- Skilled in data-driven evaluation and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong project management abilities, including multitasking and framework development for scalability and knowledge management.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and influence without direct authority.
- Strategic thinker with sound judgment, adaptability, and disciplined execution.
- High cultural sensitivity and ability to collaborate across time zones and diverse backgrounds.
- Alignment with EO’s values and member-focused approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in associations, nonprofits, memberships, or volunteer-led groups.
- Background in creating leadership development for volunteers, boards, or chapter leaders.
- Certifications or advanced training in learning design, coaching, facilitation, or organizational development.
- Fluency in an additional language.

- Compensation ranges from 65,000 to 74,500 EUR annually.
- The role primarily involves sedentary work with frequent computer, phone, and video usage.
- Communication through writing, speaking, and meetings is essential; occasional early or late meetings to accommodate global time zones.
