About the Resort and Opportunity
Join a preeminent hospitality group renowned for redefining ultra-luxury with a new private island resort in the Maldives. Role Overview
The Director of Engineering will oversee all technical, mechanical, and physical maintenance of the resort's facilities and infrastructure. This pivotal role is responsible for safeguarding exceptional service standards, asset longevity, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship at a property that blends ultimate privacy, comfort, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all engineering operations during the pre-opening and ongoing phases of the property.
- Direct and lead the engineering team, handling duty rosters, staff development, and evaluating individual and team performance.
- Establish and execute comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance schemes for building systems (mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and others).
- Ensure full regulatory adherence through regular safety, environmental, and building inspections and implementation of compliance protocols.
- Act as the primary liaison with external vendors and contractors for outsourced maintenance, renovations, and repairs.
- Track and optimize energy consumption and facilitate sustainable operational initiatives to decrease wastage and costs.
- Manage departmental budgeting, cost controls, and resource allocation, always prioritizing quality service delivery.
- Provide rapid response to maintenance emergencies, proactively minimizing disruptions impacting guests or operations.
- Maintain detailed records of all engineering activities, preventative care logs, contractor works, and statutory compliance documentation.
- Work collaboratively with heads of other departments to facilitate refurbishments, system upgrades, and new installations as required.
- Maintain the integrity and smooth functioning of technical systems, ensuring the continual comfort and safety of guests and staff.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Substantial experience leading engineering teams within luxury resort settings.
- Technical mastery of key systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and physical plant maintenance).
- Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and personnel management skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of health, environmental, and safety legislation and their practical application.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and organizational strengths.
- Proven capacity to manage budgets, oversee procurement, and develop vendor relationships.
- Excellent cross-departmental communication skills.
- Willingness to manage crises and flexible to work across varying hours.
- Proficiency in English is essential; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree or technical certification in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related discipline.
