Overview

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Marketing & Public Affairs, the Director of Marketing, Communications & Brand at Toronto Hydro leads the strategic direction of marketing, corporate communications, media relations, and brand stewardship. This leadership role is pivotal in crafting and implementing integrated strategies that elevate Toronto Hydro's reputation, enhance stakeholder connections, and align with corporate objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement company-wide marketing, branding, and communication strategies to bolster reputation and deepen stakeholder engagement.
  • Oversee comprehensive communication campaigns spanning digital, social media, advertising, web, print, events, and customer outreach efforts.
  • Act as the guardian of Toronto Hydro's brand identity ensuring all messaging, visuals, and customer interactions remain consistent and compelling.
  • Manage internal communications to unify employees around company goals, culture, and transformation initiatives.
  • Provide senior leadership with strategic communication advice, preparing briefing documents, speeches, presentations, and stakeholder messaging.
  • Lead proactive media relations and public affairs to build organizational visibility and trust among stakeholders.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage reputational or communications risks, directing response plans for emerging challenges and significant incidents.
  • Serve as the Public Information Officer during emergencies, orchestrating timely and accurate communication across employees, customers, media, and stakeholders.
  • Develop, mentor, and guide a high-achieving team fostering innovation, accountability, and continuous growth.
  • Handle departmental budgets and collaborate with external agencies and consultants to ensure efficient delivery of initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Public Administration, or related disciplines.
  • A minimum of ten years in strategic marketing, communications, brand stewardship, public affairs, or media relations roles.
  • At least five years managing and cultivating high-performance teams, with senior leadership experience favored.
  • Proven track record delivering integrated, multi-channel marketing and communication campaigns.
  • In-depth knowledge of enterprise communication strategies, reputation and issues management, media relations, and navigating sensitive situations.
  • Expertise in marketing, branding, stakeholder engagement, and digital communication methodologies.
  • Strong strategic thinking, project management, and prioritization capabilities.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, presentation, and storytelling skills tailored to diverse audiences including executives, employees, customers, and the public.
  • Keen political awareness, judgment, and decision-making skills to assess risks and formulate effective communication plans.
  • Successful relationship-building skills with senior leadership, media, stakeholders, and community members.
  • A creative and customer-centric approach paired with robust problem-solving and organizational aptitude.
  • Experience utilizing audience insights, analytics, and market data to inform strategy.

Work Environment and Additional Information

This role operates within a hybrid work setting, offering remote work two days per week with onsite presence required Tuesday through Thursday. Candidates must reside in Ontario within a reasonable commute to Toronto Hydro offices.
