Role Overview
The Director, Health & Safety for Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC), will spearhead the regional Safety First strategy and vision. This role involves standardizing and operationalizing safety management systems, devising innovative safety programs, ensuring legislative compliance, enhancing safety culture, and preventing incidents.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute the regional safety management system along with the Global Safety Policy adhering to the Safety First Framework and ISO 45001 standards.
- Develop, implement, and promote safety initiatives tailored to the APEC region.
- Act as a prominent and credible leader in occupational safety both within the company and externally.
- Serve as the APEC representative on the Global Safety Steering Committee, collaborating globally to elevate safety awareness and culture.
- Implement online safety platforms to oversee and assess safety risks effectively.
- Establish and maintain a strong safety committee and communication framework at the regional level.
- Conduct internal audits to measure and monitor Safety First Framework adherence.
- Continuously innovate and introduce performance indicators to support advanced safety measurement practices.
- Educate and influence organizational leadership and staff to embrace and champion a safety-first culture.
- Lead critical incident investigations within the region when needed.
- Support Country Managers, Safety Representatives, and employees in the deployment of safety management systems.
- Facilitate risk assessment initiatives, providing necessary training and guidance.
- Oversee regional and country-level safety audit programs.
- Standardize and manage regional safety training programs.
- Develop, implement, and track the regional safety strategy and its associated action plan.
- Engage with customers regarding safety-related matters as necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
- Over a decade of Health & Safety experience, including at least seven years in leadership roles within multinational corporations.
- A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Certification as an ISO 45001 Lead or Internal Auditor with comprehensive knowledge of ISO45001 Health and Safety standards and related methodologies such as HSG65 and Behavioral Safety Programs.
- Preferably, prior experience working in the logistics sector.
- Strong cross-cultural understanding combined with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of influencing change at all organizational levels.
- Successful history of formulating and executing Health & Safety plans across complex, multi-site operations.
- Awareness of cultural diversity across the Asia Pacific region and experience collaborating at various organizational tiers.
- Ability to navigate and comply with different legal standards across countries.
- Regional or global role experience is considered advantageous.
