Role Overview
The Senior Health, Safety & Security (HSS) Advisor supports the Irish and Northern Ireland operations by coordinating all HSS activities through Development, Construction, and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) phases. Reporting to the Country HSS Manager, this role requires travel to multiple sites across Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary HSS consultant for projects involving onshore wind, solar power, and grid systems, advising project managers on all relevant HSS issues from initial planning to operational phases.
- Offer expert guidance, support, and training on HSS policies to management, safety representatives, employees, subcontractors, suppliers, and site visitors.
- Promote and cultivate a strong safety culture aligned with company policies and procedures.
- Regularly report on business HSS risks, key performance indicators, and trends, providing data-driven recommendations for ongoing improvements.
- Develop EPC HSS Management Plans and related documentation adhering to corporate standards and best industry practices.
- Review and assess HSS documentation submitted by subcontractors.
- Conduct internal audits and site inspections alongside Site Management, suggesting corrective measures and improvements, and documenting outcomes.
- Ensure that contractors and subcontractors properly implement approved HSS management plans.
- Report incidents and dangerous occurrences to senior leadership and manage thorough, professional investigations.
- Attend HSS coordination and various site meetings as needed.
- Prepare monthly KPI reports for submission to the HSS Manager and Business Unit Manager.
- Organize and lead site start-up meetings with Statkraft contractors.
- Manage the HSS onboarding process for all new contractors.
- Develop and deploy HSS campaigns across Construction and O&M sites.
- Make site visits to development projects and provide support to the development team when required.
- Collaborate with Project Safety Designated Persons (PSDP/PD), Operational Engineers (OE), and Project Supervisors (PSCS/PC) across projects and O&M assets.
- Ensure compliance with all safety file requirements prior to project handover.
- Implement and promote the company’s Incentive Scheme on the projects.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or Higher Diploma in safety or a comparable qualification.
- Proven experience in Health, Safety, and Security within the construction sector.
- In-depth knowledge of Irish HSS legislation and Construction Regulations; familiarity with UK legislation and CDM regulations is advantageous.
- Capability to design systems compliant with external accreditation standards that fit the company's nature and workplace realities.
- Experience working on large-scale renewable energy projects.
- Prior involvement with high-voltage projects such as substations or transmission lines.
- Proficiency in conducting detailed HSS audits and report preparations.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities with the capacity to work independently.
- Demonstrated teamwork skills combined with the initiative to promote HSS improvements.
- Willingness to travel frequently as part of the role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
