Primary Role Responsibilities
Reporting within the Global Clinical Operations division, the Director leads patient recruitment and retention across the Americas. This leadership position requires the design and implementation of strategies to successfully enroll and maintain participation in clinical trials. Collaboration with study teams ensures recruitment and follow-up targets are achieved, while partnerships with vendors and patient advocacy groups foster patient-centered approaches.
Key Duties
- Design and execute a regionally-customized recruitment and retention strategy aligned with portfolio priorities considering indication, location, and patient complexity
- Develop forecasting models to anticipate enrollment schedules and potential risks
- Integrate enrollment planning early in study design and feasibility phases
- Collaborate with clinical and medical teams to embed patient-centered principles into protocols
- Identify factors that hinder patient participation and retention, addressing patient burden
- Utilize patient feedback, advocacy insights, and real-world data to refine recruitment approaches
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in clinical trial populations
- Manage multi-channel recruitment efforts including digital, site-based, and community outreach
- Develop retention programs aimed at reducing screen failures and participant drop-out
- Provide patient support services such as travel assistance, concierge, and educational resources
- Monitor recruitment outcomes continuously and optimize performance accordingly
- Select and oversee recruitment vendors, digital platforms, and engagement partners ensuring alignment with enrollment objectives
- Forge and maintain strategic collaborations with patient advocacy groups, site networks, and communities
- Adopt new technologies and platforms for innovative patient recruitment
- Apply data-driven decision making via analytics and performance metrics
- Use real-world evidence, epidemiological data, and predictive analytics for targeted recruitment
- Explore and pilot emerging trends like decentralized trials, AI, and digital engagement tools
- Lead cross-functional governance for site selection, activation, and enrollment processes
- Manage and guide the Patient Recruitment and Retention team
Required Skills and Tools
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CTMS, EDC, analytic software (e.g., Citeline, Trialtrove), and feasibility tools
- Extensive experience leading enrollment in oncology therapeutic areas
- Strong relationships with advocacy organizations and recruitment vendors
- Analytical skills for interpreting data to support informed decisions
- Background or willingness to learn study delivery aligned with commercial and regulatory goals
- Experience with clinical trial patient and investigator recruitment
- Project and budget management capabilities
- Experience working with global teams
Education and Experience
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in scientific, medical, or healthcare fields with at least 10 years combined experience in feasibility, clinical trial and operations management, and personnel management is required.
Travel Requirements
Travel may be necessary based on business needs.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $171,900 to $231,900 annually. BeOne offers equitable pay determined by individual qualifications and location. In addition to base compensation, eligible employees can participate in bonus or incentive programs and receive equity awards.
