Ipswich West Special School offers comprehensive educational programs for students from Prep to Year 12 with a diverse range of learning needs. Currently, the school is transitioning into a specialized secondary institution focusing on adolescence and facilitating successful post-school pathways.
Role Overview
Two Deputy Principal roles are available to support the school's leadership team with distinct focuses:
- Deputy Principal (Special Education - Years 7-12): Lead educational initiatives and support high-quality outcomes for secondary students.
- Deputy Principal (Special Education - Curriculum P-12): Oversee curriculum development and implementation to ensure excellent teaching and learning across all years.
Key Responsibilities
- For Deputy Principal (Special Education - Years 7-12):
- Provide leadership for the senior school cohort, collaborating with staff, families, external agencies, and community partners to improve student academic outcomes and wellbeing.
- Implement behaviour support strategies promoting a safe and inclusive environment.
- Contribute to advancing the school's reading initiatives.
- Effectively manage multiple priorities as part of the Executive Leadership Team.
- For Deputy Principal (Special Education - Curriculum P-12):
- Drive curriculum delivery aligned with the Australian Curriculum and school priorities.
- Lead literacy improvement efforts and embed robust reading practices.
- Enhance staff skills through coaching, mentoring, and facilitating professional learning alongside department heads and teaching teams.
- Manage operational priorities and support the Executive Leadership Team.
Required Experience and Knowledge
- Deputy Principal (Special Education - Years 7-12):
- Understanding of QCIA and QCAA frameworks.
- In-depth knowledge of the Australian Curriculum version 9.0.
- Experience in senior schooling pathways, transition planning, post-school options, and managing work experience programs.
- Proficiency with PATH planning to assist student goal setting and future orientation.
- Expertise in differentiated teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learner needs.
- Experience in special school environments is highly advantageous.
- Deputy Principal (Special Education - Curriculum P-12):
- Strong familiarity with Australian Curriculum v9.0.
- Expertise in differentiated instruction tailored to varied student needs.
- Demonstrated success in boosting reading outcomes through evidence-based methods.
- Ability to utilize data effectively to inform teaching methodologies and overall school improvement.
