Depot Manager - Bus Depots

Overview

The Depot Manager leads comprehensive management of bus depot operations, ensuring buses are prepared, drivers are assigned effectively, infrastructure is maintained, and uninterrupted service is provided. This position emphasizes safety adherence, operational excellence, resource efficiency, and continuous strategic enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

• Generate reports on current project progress and strategic plans related to depot activities.
• Participate in network planning, expansion of vehicle fleets, and optimization of routes.
• Supervise and contribute to departmental projects such as facility upgrades and initiatives supporting alternative fuel and energy transitions.
• Lead collaborative efforts across depots and departments to achieve critical strategic goals.
• Ensure depot infrastructure readiness for electric buses, alternative fuels, and emerging technologies.
• Incorporate artificial intelligence and advanced control systems to improve operational decision-making and performance.
• Implement lean management and Six Sigma principles to eliminate waste and improve efficiency.
• Manage daily depot activities, maintaining bus availability, staff scheduling, and overall coordination with supporting units.
• Monitor and ensure buses are maintained, clean, fueled or charged and aligned with operational timetables.
• Oversee driver scheduling, training, supervision, and validation of driver assignments.
• Address operational disruptions such as vehicle breakdowns, accidents, fires, or driver illnesses by executing contingency responses.
• Participate in budget planning and monitor expenses to ensure fiscal responsibility.
• Supervise service dispatch and returns, including deployment of replacement buses as emergencies arise.
• Handle rental services for both short- and long-term needs, coordinating pricing and approvals for special events.
• Maintain asset and depot safety standards, ensure safety equipment readiness, and apply asset management policies including advertising installations.
• Conduct frequent operational assessments, including daily coordination meetings and weekly site inspections to confirm safety and compliance.
• Track operational metrics for buses and drivers, fuel consumption, and depot stock levels, taking corrective actions as necessary.
• Collaborate with external vendors and internal departments to maintain smooth daily operations.
• Deliver comprehensive operational reports covering safety, performance, and financial data on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
• Evaluate operational data to identify improvement areas, lead initiatives to increase efficiency, safety, and quality while reducing costs.
• Develop and maintain depot self-assessment tools and ensure timely resolution of outstanding issues.
• Enhance monitoring, reporting, and performance tracking systems to support transparency and better decision-making.

Working Environment

This role is based at a bus depot facility.

Qualifications & Experience

• A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Transport or Operations Management, or a master’s degree in Transport Systems is required.
• At least 8 years' experience with a bachelor’s or a minimum of 6 years with a master’s degree in relevant fields.
• This position is exclusively open to UAE Nationals.
