Job Overview
This role is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects at Fujairah Terminal, aiming to drive process improvements, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and enhance productivity through effective resource and equipment management.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct daily activities at Fujairah Terminal, continually evaluating and refining processes while initiating improvements to maintain seamless operations.
- Engage in operational meetings to assess productivity, troubleshoot issues arising during shifts, and confirm the adoption of mitigation strategies that prioritize safety, efficiency, and compliance with laws and regulations.
- Implement and maintain adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, maritime shipping procedures, and applicable government laws as governed by federal and regional authorities.
- Supervise the availability and utilization of materials and cargo handling equipment to ensure efficient loading and unloading operations.
- Compile and analyze operational reports detailing progress and factors affecting productivity, costs, timing, safety, and security.
- Regularly review and update operational policies, procedures, and guidelines to optimize efficiency and output.
- Maintain collaboration and communication with government agencies and external parties, including shipping agents and cargo operators, to sustain strong stakeholder relationships.
- Manage the inspection and maintenance of all terminal equipment such as internal transfer vehicles (ITV), forklifts, reach stackers, rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTG), and bobcats; diagnose issues and coordinate repairs and upgrades with the maintenance teams.
- Lead vessel hatch and quay side operations to ensure readiness prior to cargo handling activities.
- Oversee the execution and timely completion of strategic projects within the department and company.
- People Management:
- Ensure operational continuity and smooth coordination among team members.
- Provide inspiring leadership and supervision, set defined expectations, and foster a culture emphasizing accountability.
- Participate actively in recruitment and structural adjustments to hire personnel with appropriate skills and cultural compatibility.
- Mentor and coach team members to enhance their professional skills and problem-solving capabilities.
- Manage workload distribution to maintain balanced team productivity while avoiding burnout.
- Identify and address skill deficits and training needs to uphold consistent high performance.
- Strategic Responsibilities:
- Formulate and implement strategic plans and cost controls to boost departmental efficiency aligned with profitability goals.
- Represent the Fujairah Terminal CEO in meetings and conferences as required.
- Drive cost-saving initiatives to optimize financial outcomes.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, partners, and stakeholders to promote customer satisfaction and retention.
- Assess business risks and implement risk management strategies to reduce potential liabilities.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in Logistics, Maritime and Ports, Engineering, or related disciplines is required. A master's degree adds advantage.
- Possession of a Ports & Maritime Certificate is beneficial.
- Fluency in English is essential; Arabic language skills are a plus.
- An experience range of 12 to 15 years in comparable operations management roles in seaport environments, particularly container and multi-purpose terminals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the container and general cargo shipping sectors.
- Proven leadership capabilities within multicultural work settings, facilitating cooperation and objective achievement.
- Practical understanding of contemporary terminal operations, including vessel and yard planning.
- Strong skills in communication, finance management including budgeting, and handling defense figures.
- Expertise in negotiation and conflict resolution techniques.
