Job description

Overview

The Irish Defence Forces is seeking qualified Motor Technicians to join as Direct Entrants. This position involves performing vehicle maintenance and repairs across various Defence Forces divisions, including the Army, Naval Service and Air Corps. Successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring the operational readiness and safety of military vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of vehicle repair tasks such as servicing, brake maintenance, tyre replacement and timing belt adjustments.
  • Carry out comprehensive vehicle health inspections to detect necessary safety and maintenance actions.
  • Conduct road tests to confirm the effective completion of repair work.
  • Follow all Defence Forces policies, operational procedures, and safety regulations.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a FAS/SOLAS or equivalent certification in Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Motor Mechanic, Construction Plant Fitter, Agricultural Mechanics or HETAC Level 7 in Agricultural Mechanisation.
  • Candidates should be aged between 18 and under 39 years; proof of age verification will be requested if shortlisted.
  • Minimum height requirement is 5 feet 2 inches (157.48 cm), verified during selection.
  • Visible tattoos above the collar are prohibited while serving and will disqualify applicants during the selection process.
  • Applicants must have the eligibility to work in Ireland with a minimum residency/work permit valid for at least 5 years; proof of valid work authorization may be required.
  • Candidates will need to successfully pass medical, physical fitness, and security clearance assessments as part of the recruitment process.
