Role overview
This contract opportunity is for a Data Protection Officer focused on PII compliance. The role is remote and designed for a weekly commitment of 10 to 40 hours. Compensation is offered at $40 to $70 per hour.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the setup, monitoring, and ongoing improvement of procedures that protect personal data and ensure it is processed lawfully.
- Review data movement and supporting records to spot, categorize, and reduce privacy risks, including less obvious forms of personally identifiable information.
- Work closely with teams across the business to create, refine, and maintain privacy, data-handling, and compliance policies.
- Train and advise colleagues on secure handling of sensitive records and proper management of personally identifiable information.
- Act as the main point of contact during privacy incidents and help coordinate investigation and corrective actions.
- Keep accurate processing logs and documentation to support compliance reporting and transparency requirements.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in PII compliance, with a strong record of managing complex or non-standard privacy scenarios.
- Solid knowledge of GDPR, privacy regulations, and broader compliance expectations.
- Strong background in data management, including methods used to generalize or remove details to lower re-identification risk.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to explain privacy matters clearly and precisely.
- Prior experience working with sensitive documents, particularly in finance or corporate settings.
