Role overview
This position focuses on carrying out customs investigation work for smuggling matters that cannot be resolved administratively. The role involves reviewing seizure reports, checking evidence, assembling complete case files, and preparing matters for escalation while staying aligned with applicable laws, procedures, and operating standards.
Key responsibilities
- Examine seizure reports and all related supporting papers to confirm they are complete, accurate, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate case details and available evidence to determine whether violations occurred using the prescribed investigation approach.
- Record an initial assessment of criminal liability and develop clear case conclusions.
- Compile investigation files and the documentation needed to refer cases to the Public Prosecution.
- Interview suspects, document their statements, and make sure they are notified of their legal rights according to procedure.
- Send incident notifications to the Public Prosecution within the required timeframe and according to the set protocol.
- Draft official requests to begin customs criminal proceedings and submit them for review and approval.
- Keep investigation records complete, accurate, and well organized.
- Work with legal, operations, and compliance teams to gather what is needed for each case.
- Spot missing details or documentation gaps and follow up until the case file is complete.
- Refer difficult or ambiguous matters to the appropriate higher authority with supporting reasoning and analysis.
- Help ensure adherence to internal policies, procedures, and audit expectations.
Education and experience
A bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline is required. The role calls for 2 to 4 years of relevant experience in customs, compliance, investigations, or legal support work.
