Job description

About Clerky

Clerky creates software that simplifies legal paperwork for startups and the attorneys who support them. The company is profitable and expanding in a measured, sustainable way. It is widely used for startup formation and is also trusted by many high-growth companies for hiring and fundraising paperwork.

As a Customer Operations & Writing Specialist, you’ll represent the company in front of thousands of startup founders, investors, and lawyers. These users rely on Clerky for time-sensitive legal tasks, so delivering excellent support is central to the company’s reputation. The business depends heavily on referrals, and customer satisfaction is a major focus.

What makes this role different

This is a demanding support role that requires careful thought and strong writing. Customer questions can be nuanced and highly specialized, so resolving them well often takes repeated refinement. The work involves continuous learning, close attention to detail, and the ability to improve your writing through feedback.

The pace of learning is ongoing, and the role calls for sustained concentration. If you prefer work that can be learned quickly or handled without deep focus, this may not be the right fit. If you enjoy challenging problems and constant growth, it may be a strong match.

There are also many situations where there is no single definitive answer. In those cases, the goal is to help customers understand the available information and guide them toward the best conclusion they can reach on their own, or to clarify when an answer cannot be determined with certainty.

Minimum requirements

  • Strong genuine interest in helping others
  • High emotional awareness and judgment
  • Clear analytical and logical thinking
  • Excellent written English, with the ability to be precise and concise
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Comfort working independently in a remote environment
  • Confidence using unfamiliar technology without formal training
  • Willingness to give and receive frequent feedback throughout the day
  • Self-driven mindset and a consistent focus on quality

How the team works

  • Clerky has operated remotely for years and is fully comfortable with distributed work.
  • The team is small, so every person’s contribution has clear impact. Work is efficient, self-directed, and respectful.
  • Collaboration is open and supportive, with close coordination across team members to serve customers well.
  • Working hours are flexible as long as team coverage needs are met.
  • A budget is provided for books, courses, tools, and other learning resources that support success in the role.
  • The company offers strong compensation and benefits, plus the chance to learn a great deal while helping customers during important moments in their lives.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer emails with careful, empathetic, and well-crafted messages using Help Scout.
  • Write and update help center content, and identify new article topics from recurring customer questions.
  • Partner with engineers to investigate and troubleshoot software problems reported by customers.
  • Use the product to help build and improve ways customers complete legal paperwork.
  • Support the product team by testing new features and fixes, while sharing customer insights.
  • Recognize patterns in customer issues and flag them to the broader team when needed.

Additional information

This is a fully remote role, so you can work from home or any other location. It is not a good fit for someone who travels frequently or moves around often. The company offers strong compensation and benefits, reasonable working hours, and reasonable customers. No legal background or prior legal experience is required or preferred.

Hiring process notice

Artificial intelligence tools may be used to assist with parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or evaluating responses. These tools support the recruiting team but do not replace human decision-making. Final hiring decisions are made by people.
