Job description
About the business
The Painting House is a premium residential painting and decorating company based in the East Midlands. It aims to update a long-established trade by using a more modern, technology-led approach, including digital colour visualisation, AI-supported design and content, and contemporary business practices that improve the customer journey from the first enquiry through to completion.
The business is in a growth phase and is looking for someone who can join early, take meaningful ownership, and help shape the creative direction as it expands.
Role overview
This part-time freelance position is focused on developing the design and colour side of the brand. The goal is to help homeowners feel confident about colour and interior decisions, while positioning the business as a knowledgeable voice on interiors rather than simply a painting contractor.
You will work directly with the founder to create the visual and advisory tools that support customers, strengthen the brand’s creative identity, and contribute to its thought-leadership presence.
Key duties
- Visit clients in their homes to provide friendly, expert colour and design advice, helping them feel confident while the quoting process is handled separately.
- Collaborate with the founder to build creative resources such as a colour library, scheme ideas, mood content, and trend-led inspiration for customers.
- Track and interpret current colour and interior trends, then adapt manufacturer-led ideas into the brand’s own style and tone.
- Contribute ideas and content that build the company’s reputation as a trusted source of design insight and interior guidance.
Who this role suits
This opportunity is best suited to someone with a genuine background in design and a strong eye for interiors, colour, and styling. It is ideal for a person who is confident working face-to-face in a customer’s home, naturally consultative, and able to build trust through taste and professionalism.
The role also requires someone who is commercially aware, based in the East Midlands, has access to their own transport, and is comfortable travelling to client sites, with occasional travel further afield if needed. It will appeal to someone who wants to help shape an early-stage business directly with the founder and enjoy variety and influence rather than a conventional studio role.
Additional information
This is a properly paid opportunity with flexibility at the start and the potential to grow alongside the business. There is also scope to help develop and lead paid design services in the future.
Applicants are invited to share what interests them about the role along with a portfolio or examples of previous work.
