Role Overview

The Retail Growth & Development team in Amazon's Worldwide Grocery Real Estate division is seeking a creative and proactive Store Designer. This role demands entrepreneurial spirit, adaptability, and strong collaboration in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate excels at driving multiple design projects through all stages from conception to construction oversight, driven by curiosity and a dedication to customer excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a flexible, solution-focused mindset and willingness to engage hands-on across tasks.
  • Interpret and apply brand design guidelines innovatively while managing budgets prudently.
  • Handle diverse programs spanning multiple banners and an extensive portfolio.
  • Oversee the design workflow, coordinating with internal and external design collaborators.
  • Modify store designs to accommodate unique site conditions and metrics.
  • Develop detailed scope of work in partnership with stakeholders to support store operations.
  • Create FF&E and décor packages to enhance store environments.
  • Collaborate with key partners to produce comprehensive design packages.
  • Prepare presentation materials to effectively communicate design concepts to teams and leadership.
  • Lead schematic design package creation.
  • Coordinate with Construction, Procurement, and Operations to address budgeting, scheduling, and value engineering.
  • Manage consultant contributions through all design phases and project milestones.
  • Provide construction administrative support as necessary, including document archiving and approvals.
  • Secure landlord approvals in line with lease terms and review submittals and shop drawings.
  • Apply knowledge of building and health codes, 3D visualization, and industry trends.
  • Communicate design ideas clearly across visual, written, and verbal channels.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, excelling in organization, communication, and problem solving under fast-paced, changing conditions.

Work Environment

This position demands effective collaboration with cross-functional groups, external consultants, and vendors across the full store development lifecycle. Candidates must exhibit professionalism, positivity, and strong communication skills at all organizational levels, including leadership.

The worldwide Retail Growth & Development Design team focuses on customer-driven grocery store designs that integrate physical and online shopping seamlessly. The team pioneers innovative grocery environments that optimize layout for efficiency and exceptional customer experience.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or interior design.
  • Minimum of 5 years in commercial retail design or architectural roles.
  • Proficiency with Revit at an intermediate level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in grocery retail design is strongly favored.
  • Background in architectural or interior design FF&E is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite, Bluebeam, Enscape, SketchUp, and SmartSheet.
  • Understanding of contemporary sustainability initiatives and practices.
  • Demonstrated success managing projects from inception through completion.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects at various design stages and adapt to change.
  • Experience in design development documentation, permitting, and overseeing construction administration.
  • Ability to navigate fast-moving, ambiguous work environments successfully.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range for this position varies by location, for example, $64,700 to $113,200 annually in Austin, TX, and $82,700 to $113,200 annually in Seattle, WA. The overall compensation package includes sign-on bonuses and restricted stock units (RSUs). Additionally, a 401(k) retirement savings plan with company matching is provided.
