Role Overview

We seek a seasoned Commercial Counsel based in Singapore to support our APAC operations. Reporting to the Director of Legal APAC, you will work hand-in-hand with regional business units, facilitating our expansion through expert legal guidance.

Key Responsibilities

• Drafting, structuring, negotiating, and providing strategic advice on a variety of commercial agreements such as master services agreements, data protection contracts, partnership deals, reseller contracts, and professional services agreements; involvement in tenders and RFP responses.
• Collaborating actively with sales, AI engineers, data scientists, infosec, government affairs, marketing, communications, and finance teams to promote commercial objectives and legal compliance across APAC.
• Taking accountability and ownership to prioritize tasks and manage client expectations amid shifting deadlines.
• Monitoring evolving AI-related legal and regulatory frameworks within APAC and advising the company on associated risks and opportunities.
• Identifying improvement opportunities and delivering tailored training on legal and compliance issues related to AI and company operations, fostering knowledge sharing and coaching within the team.
• Providing general legal support concerning labor law, corporate governance, data privacy, procurement, and other contract types.
• Driving operational excellence and pragmatic process enhancements supporting business growth.
• Demonstrating commitment to team and business success, maintaining integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.

Candidate Profile

• Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in law (LLB, LLM, Juris Doctor preferred) from an accredited institution; admission to practice law in Singapore is mandatory.
• Experience: Over 10 years of relevant legal experience, including negotiation of complex technology transactions—preferably AI-related—with a minimum of 5 years in-house in technology companies across the APAC region.
• Proven expertise in negotiating public sector contracts.
• Regional experience in APAC is preferred; proficiency in an Asian language is a plus; comfortable coordinating with cross-functional, multiregional teams.
• Deep knowledge of AI technologies (such as machine learning and NLP) and legal frameworks covering data privacy, intellectual property, contracts, regulatory compliance, and ethical issues.
• Strong analytical abilities to assess complex legal and AI technical matters, identify risks, develop solutions, and advocate effectively while remaining receptive to input.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting legal advice and complex topics clearly internally and to clients.
• Customer-oriented approach with entrepreneurial thinking; skilled in strategic negotiation and sound decision-making under pressure.
• Team player with high cultural sensitivity and professionalism, emphasizing integrity, credibility, accountability, and transparency.
• In-depth understanding of AI ethics, including fairness, transparency, accountability, and bias mitigation.
