Job description

About the team

Join Deloitte’s national Finance function as a Commercial Finance Business Analyst in the Auckland office. This role sits within the centre of the firm’s commercial operations, where finance insight supports strategic choices and helps drive sustainable growth. The team develops financial models, dashboards, and reporting tools that give client-facing teams the clarity they need to work with confidence.

You will work closely with leaders in the Technology & Transformation business unit, providing commercial guidance and financial stewardship across projects. The position offers the chance to influence planning, delivery, and review processes while building strong relationships with senior stakeholders in a culture focused on accuracy, insight, and continuous improvement.

Role overview

The role is focused on management reporting, project finance, billing, reconciliations, and commercial analysis. You will support project teams with budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial controls, while helping ensure project performance is tracked and risks are identified early.

Key responsibilities

In this position, you will contribute to the financial management of project-based work and support decision-making with reliable analysis and reporting.

  • Act as the finance partner for project teams by delivering analysis that informs commercial decisions and strengthens business understanding.
  • Prepare and support budgeting, forecasting, modelling, and financial reporting for project activities.
  • Monitor milestones, spending, and financial exposures, while ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
  • Apply revenue recognition rules correctly and in line with internal requirements.
  • Define project KPIs and track them regularly to support stronger performance.
  • Improve project accounting processes to increase accuracy, speed, and control.
  • Support engagement teams with reconciliations, billing milestones, and executive reporting for leaders.
  • Assist with monthly account reviews, especially for larger engagements, and flag issues affecting the month-end financial result.
  • Contribute to annual planning and quarterly forecast updates.
  • Maintain client and engagement records so reporting remains accurate.
  • Manage invoicing, follow up on billing, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Check time entries and expenses charged to projects.
  • Produce scheduled and ad hoc reports according to business needs.
  • Identify commercial and financial risks and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Take ownership of ongoing learning and technical development.

Requirements

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a closely related field.
  • Strong analytical ability, with advanced use of Microsoft Excel and experience working with ERP and reporting tools such as SAP, TM1, and Power BI.
  • Some exposure to commercial finance and project reconciliations would be an advantage.
  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy in financial work.
  • Interest in pursuing CAANZ, CPA, AT, CIMA, or an equivalent accounting qualification.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and KPIs used in project accounting.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Confidence to take ownership of systems, processes, and deliverables.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt in a changing environment.

What’s on offer

  • Flexible working arrangements that can be tailored to the needs of you, the team, and clients.
  • Support for professional qualifications, including subsidised study and paid professional memberships.
  • Subsidised health insurance.
  • Income protection insurance.
  • 22 days of annual leave.
  • Social events, sports teams, and monthly firm drinks.
  • Wellness and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Volunteer days with a community focus.
  • Commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
  • Additional benefits beyond those listed above.
