Role overview
The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is recognised internationally for delivering outstanding patient care, education and research. Together with The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), it forms the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe. This position sits within the Lung Unit at The Royal Marsden Hospital, a centre known worldwide for its expertise in both clinical care and clinical research.
Applications are open for a Clinical Research Doctor specialising in Lung and Mesothelioma Cancer. The post is a three-year clinical research fellowship leading to MD(Res).
Eligibility and essential criteria
To meet the requirements of the role, candidates must be eligible for full GMC registration, hold a national training number in a relevant specialty, and have MRCP or an equivalent qualification.
Training and development
This fellowship offers extensive postgraduate training in the medical and multidisciplinary management of thoracic malignancies. The role gives exposure to a broad mix of clinical cases, active research activity, and advanced clinical practice in a leading cancer centre.
There is a strong focus on postgraduate education across The Royal Marsden and the Institute of Cancer Research. Teaching activities include lectures, seminars, formal journal clubs, and tutorials covering both clinical and laboratory medicine, often in collaboration with the Institute of Cancer Research. Special lectures and meetings are regularly shared, and research fellows are encouraged to attend conferences and training courses. Study leave is available for these activities, with some funding potentially offered. Preparing scientific papers is also strongly supported.
