About the Role
This role is based in Wagoner, Oklahoma, within the state's largest agency dedicated to child welfare. The position offers a meaningful chance to positively affect the lives and safety of children and families, promoting long-term wellbeing across the community. Extensive training is provided to new staff to ensure proficiency and impact.
Compensation and Benefits
- Level I (H23A): Annual salary of $37280, plus full state employee benefits
- Level II (H23B): Annual salary of $40077, plus full state employee benefits
- Level III (H23C): Annual salary of $43968, plus full state employee benefits
Masters degree holders in Social Work receive an additional 5% salary incentive. Employees on on-call duty are awarded biweekly bonuses between $100 and $150 depending on their responsibilities. Working hours may include on-call shifts, extended schedules, and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
- Level I: Either completion of 90 college credit hours, 3 years related child welfare experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Level II: Bachelor's degree in any discipline or one year serving as a Child Welfare Specialist.
- Level III: Master's degree or Bachelor's degree plus one year experience, or two years experience as a Child Welfare Specialist.
Key Duties
Responsibilities may cover several child welfare programs:
- Child Protective Services (CPS): Investigating child abuse or neglect reports, ensuring child safety, and assisting families with challenges risking child wellbeing.
- Family Centered Services (FCS): Supporting parents in strengthening protective capacities to keep children safely at home and reduce out-of-home placements.
- Permanency Planning (PP): Engaging family members in treatment plans, securing appropriate care placements meeting children's needs, facilitating returns home when safe, and arranging permanent solutions otherwise.
All new hires participate in the Child Welfare Core Academy Training covering preventive and treatment services, child placement visits and assessments, community referrals, abuse investigations, case documentation, court attendance, legal consultations, direct care services, and additional tasks.

- Extensive travel is required with a valid driver’s license and maintained insurance. State vehicles are available for official duties.
