Job description

Position overview

This role is based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and sits within the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. The position supports background screening activities for current and prospective employees, community partners, vendors, and volunteers, with a focus on Child Welfare and Child Care Licensing programs. It also includes technical assistance for Child Care providers, Child Care Services, and Child Welfare Services.

Compensation and benefits

  • Level I (C44A): $43,410.00 annually, plus full state employee benefits
  • Level II (C44B): $46,664.80 annually, plus full state employee benefits
  • Level III (C44C): $51,331.28 annually, plus full state employee benefits

Work conditions

Travel is occasional. A valid driver’s license is required, along with maintained car insurance.

Minimum qualifications

Background Investigator I: A bachelor’s degree, or four years of technical clerical office work, or a comparable mix of education and experience.

Background Investigator II: A bachelor’s degree plus one year of professional or technical administrative experience in business or public administration, or a comparable mix of education and experience. One year of qualifying experience may substitute for one year of the required education.

Background Investigator III: A bachelor’s degree plus one year of professional or technical administrative experience in business or public administration and one additional year of professional business or public administration experience, or a comparable mix of education and experience. One year of qualifying experience may substitute for one year of the required education.

Technical administrative experience refers to highly complex clerical work performed under the direct supervision of a professional supervisor or manager.

Role summary

The selected candidate will gather and review background information and criminal history data for employment and program-related screening. The work includes contacting courts, district attorney offices, and local law enforcement to secure documents needed to finish background check requests, as well as communicating with OSBI and Idemia regarding fingerprint investigations.

Preference

Applicants with education or experience in Child Welfare, Child Care Services, or Criminal Justice may be preferred.

Job responsibilities

  • Carry out confidential administrative review of fingerprints using manual or automated fingerprint identification systems.
  • Capture fingerprints in the Livescan office and through the mobile unit.
  • Keep background check databases and records current.
  • Record incoming requests, check them for completeness, answer calls, and guide callers through the process.
