Job description
Role overview
We are seeking a Chief Risk Officer based in the United States to join a fast-scaling digital financial services business. This senior executive position is focused on creating, strengthening, and expanding a global enterprise risk function from the ground up. You will act as the independent owner of risk oversight, helping define the organization’s risk stance across financial, operational, regulatory, and technology-related areas.
The role calls for someone who can both design the long-term strategy and handle execution in practice. You will develop governance structures, control mechanisms, risk systems, and reporting processes that support growth without compromising discipline or compliance. While partnering closely with executive leadership, you will preserve the independence of the risk function and maintain a strong line of sight to regulators and other external stakeholders across multiple regions.
This is a rare opportunity to build a best-in-class risk capability within a rapidly growing, globally expanding, and highly regulated environment.
Key responsibilities
- Create and manage the full enterprise risk management framework, including policies, controls, governance structures, and reporting.
- Set up and activate the company’s risk appetite framework in line with international regulatory expectations and industry standards.
- Put in place independent oversight across both financial and non-financial risk areas, with clear monitoring and escalation practices.
- Represent the organization in discussions with regulators and outside stakeholders across several jurisdictions.
- Develop scalable risk technology, dashboards, and reporting capabilities that improve early identification and mitigation of risk.
- Advise senior executives on risk matters while safeguarding the independence of the risk function.
- Recruit, develop, and lead a global risk team, including the operating model and organizational design.
- Coordinate risk governance across Legal, Compliance, Finance, and Security teams.
- Continuously refine risk processes and frameworks to support responsible growth in a changing regulatory landscape.
Experience and requirements
- At least 15 years of experience leading risk functions in financial services, fintech, or similarly regulated environments.
- Hands-on experience creating, scaling, or reshaping enterprise risk management programs.
- Strong command of risk governance, internal controls, regulatory requirements, and multi-jurisdiction compliance.
- Broad exposure to financial and non-financial risk categories, including operational, market, credit, liquidity, and technology risk.
- Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous settings while balancing innovation with disciplined risk management.
- Evidence of productive interaction with regulators and external stakeholders in complex regulatory settings.
- Executive-level presence with the ability to influence, challenge, and collaborate effectively with senior leadership.
- Experience building and managing high-performing global teams in complex organizations.
- Strong strategic judgment and execution capability, including delivery of large transformation programs.
Benefits and perks
- Competitive executive compensation package.
- Equity participation linked to long-term value creation.
- Performance-based incentives tied to business impact.
- Unlimited paid time off and flexible work arrangements.
- Hybrid or remote-first working options depending on location.
- Comprehensive private healthcare coverage.
- Improved parental leave support.
- Annual learning and development budget for executive growth.
- Home office and remote work support allowances.
- Access to company product benefits and fee-free crypto transactions.
- Regular global offsites, leadership summits, and strategic workshops.
- Opportunity to define and shape the global risk function in a category-defining organization.
- High-impact executive position with direct influence on global risk and regulatory strategy.
