About Lyft

Lyft is dedicated to serving and connecting people by fostering a workplace where all employees feel they belong and have opportunities to grow. Currently experiencing a pivotal transformation—from a turnaround phase to international expansion and from traditional ridesharing to autonomous technology—the company values leadership roles that can drive this evolution.

Role Overview

The Chief of Staff to the CEO is a vital strategic and operational partner to CEO David Risher and the senior leadership team. This role requires a versatile builder and trusted advisor capable of balancing high-level strategy with detailed execution. As a linchpin in the Executive Office, you will guide organizational rhythm, narrative, strategy, and operations, translating the CEO's vision into tangible organizational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Executive Office rhythms and communications to ensure alignment across Lyft.
  • Collaborate closely with the Executive Business Partner to maximize CEO and executive team effectiveness.
  • Head the Chiefs of Staff community, ensuring operational cohesion company-wide.
  • Provide strategic partnership and support to the CEO on organizational strategy, leadership priorities, and decision making.
  • Prepare the CEO for critical meetings and events through comprehensive briefing materials and follow-up coordination.
  • Manage confidential and sensitive initiatives, including personnel matters and corporate development.
  • Drive annual planning, corporate rhythms, leadership offsites, goal-setting processes, and organizational design projects.
  • Develop and maintain communication strategies that define the CEO’s internal and external messaging.
  • Represent the CEO’s interests across leadership, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.

Experience and Qualifications

  • More than 14 years of experience spanning strategy, operations, communications, management consulting, or roles with comparable complexity.
  • Previous experience as a Chief of Staff or a comparable role supporting senior executives at a public company or rapidly growing technology firm is strongly preferred.
  • Proven skills in executive communications, having crafted messages for public markets, boards, or large internal audiences.
  • Expertise in organizational design, annual planning, and managing complex cross-functional programs.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Outstanding written communication abilities across various formats including shareholder letters and board memos.
  • Strong analytical and systems-thinking aptitude, comfortable with financial analyses and strategic frameworks.
  • Sound judgment for prioritizing issues and escalating when necessary.
  • High emotional intelligence with the capacity to swiftly build trust at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple critical initiatives without losing focus on details.
  • Adaptability and comfort working amidst ambiguity and shifting priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to frequently travel domestically and internationally with short notice, embracing a dynamic and extended schedule.

Personal Characteristics

  • Motivated by enabling others' success rather than personal recognition.
  • Holds oneself and others to high standards while maintaining kindness and directness.
  • Respected for discretion and integrity in managing confidential matters.
  • Aligned with Lyft's mission to serve and connect communities.
  • Committed to establishing lasting organizational processes and frameworks.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience within mobility, transportation, or autonomous vehicle sectors.
  • History supporting a CEO through significant strategic changes or growth phases.
  • Expertise in corporate governance, board management, or investor relations.
  • Comfort working with data to build business cases or financial models independently.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance with additional enrollment programs.
  • Mental health support services.
  • Family-building and child care benefits, including pet support.
  • Competitive 401(k) retirement savings plan.
  • Paid time off including 12 holidays, discretionary PTO for salaried employees, and 15 days PTO for hourly staff.
  • 18 weeks of paid parental leave applicable to biological, adoptive, and foster parents.
  • Subsidized commuting benefits.
  • Exclusive access to Lyft Pink and other team member programs.

Additional Information
