Role Overview

The Chief of Staff to the CMO and Chief Communications Officer is a senior individual contributor role focused on optimizing the executives’ time and efforts on strategic initiatives and high-impact projects. This position supports executive preparation for critical engagements, leads cross-functional initiatives endorsed at the C-suite level, and ensures coordinated leadership within Marketing and Communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with executive assistants to align calendar management with strategic priorities, ensuring executives allocate time effectively.
  • Develop preparatory materials including board presentations, executive reviews, and external communication briefs, followed by action tracking.
  • Represent the CMO in select meetings, exercising judgment to manage or escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Communications team to provide strategic context for executive messaging, thought leadership, and company narratives.
  • Plan and execute major company leadership events such as All Hands meetings, leadership forums, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Utilize AI tools to enhance executive communications and narrative crafting, while collaborating on broader AI strategy with the operations team.
  • Direct complex, multi-department initiatives requiring C-suite sponsorship from conception through successful delivery and evaluation.
  • Create accountability structures, clarify decision-making rights, and establish strategic reporting to provide executives visibility into priorities.
  • Lead onboarding and integration for newly appointed senior leaders in partnership with HR, focusing on stakeholder relationships and orientation.
  • Design and facilitate culture-shaping activities within Marketing, Communications, and cross-functional leadership teams, including offsites and summits.

Candidate Profile

  • Over 10 years’ experience in strategy, program management, executive communications, management consulting, or Chief of Staff roles with measurable impact at senior leadership levels.
  • Proven capability to autonomously manage complex, cross-functional programs from start to finish.
  • Outstanding communication skills; able to authentically and precisely articulate executive messaging.
  • Experienced in developing operational rhythms, accountability frameworks, and decision structures in intricate matrix environments.
  • Strong influencer with a history of earning trust among senior executives and diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment handling sensitive information and navigating organizational dynamics.
  • Hands-on expertise applying AI tools to advance executive communication, research, and narrative creation with rigorous validation and integrity.
  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills to distill complex information into clear actionable advice.
  • Preferably previous Chief of Staff or strategic advisory experience supporting C-suite executives, especially in public technology firms.
  • Background or deep understanding of marketing, branding, or corporate communications preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or equivalent experience.

Additional Information

  • This role requires in-office presence 2-3 times per month in one of the following sites: San Francisco, Seattle, or Los Angeles.
  • This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
  • Applicants should be based in the United States.
  • Estimated annual base salary ranges from $178,561 to $367,626 USD and is supplemented with equity opportunities.
