About Queensland Fire Department

The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) is entrusted with comprehensive fire prevention, preparedness, and response services across built and wild landscape areas. It offers specialized emergency response capabilities including road crash rescue, hazardous materials management, bushfire fighting, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incident management, as well as remote and swiftwater rescue operations. The department integrates Queensland Fire and Rescue, the Rural Fire Service Queensland, and supports a large volunteer network throughout the state. A significant focus is placed on strengthening relations with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities aligned with cultural capability initiatives.

Role Purpose

The Information and Technology Directorate, which you will lead, delivers ICT solutions and manages QFD’s technology investments, governance, portfolio, and assurance activities. This involves implementing transformative programs that bolster business strategies in accordance with Queensland Government policies and departmental objectives. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer of Strategy and Corporate Services, you will be an integral member of the Executive Leadership Team, shaping the strategic direction across the department. You will hold full responsibility and delegated authority for all operational and financial aspects of the ICT directorate, overseeing all personnel, resources, systems, and processes to ensure effective, compliant, and efficient service delivery.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead strategic planning for ICT services and oversee optimal use of human, financial, and capital resources to fulfill governmental and organisational goals.
  • Analyze departmental performance against strategy to ensure efficient resource utilization in meeting service delivery commitments and future demands.
  • Direct ICT governance and investment strategies to realize innovative technology solutions and corresponding benefits.
  • Provide timely, accurate briefings on internal policies and advise senior leadership on ICT system developments supporting frontline services.
  • Forge and maintain strategic partnerships that enhance QFD’s operational effectiveness and ensure integration with whole-of-government processes.
  • Represent QFD interests at governmental boards and committees, often standing in for the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Lead compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations impacting QFD and partners.
  • Identify and drive improvements in ICT service delivery, including gathering requirements and deploying new technologies.
  • Monitor ICT industry trends for impacts on governance and service performance.
  • Develop plans, policies, and recommendations to inform the department’s strategic direction.
  • Provide leadership in risk management, legislative compliance, information governance, and service delivery excellence.
  • Champion development of teams to deliver integrated IT services with an emphasis on customer-centric outcomes.

  • Track record in creating vision, strategy, and roadmaps for ICT functions in large, complex organisations.
  • Experience overseeing portfolios comprising complex ICT programs and projects, acting as project executive or senior governance supplier ensuring accountability across all project phases.
  • Tertiary qualifications in ICT, Business Management, or related fields, complemented by postgraduate credentials.
