Job description
Role Overview
The Family Group Meeting Convenor plays a vital role in facilitating family group meetings aligned with the Child Protection Act 1999. The role’s core purpose is to enable family-led solutions addressing children’s protection and care needs, ensuring collaborative case planning and decision making centered on the child's welfare.
Key Duties
- Coordinate and oversee all stages of the family group meeting process, including receiving referrals, pinpointing and organizing participants, and leading the meetings effectively.
- Ensure facilitation strictly complies with legislative standards and principles.
- Prepare all participants for meetings by clearly explaining the meeting’s objectives, drawing on personal experience and cultural understanding to provide culturally safe and appropriate services, especially respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditions.
- Capture perspectives of those unable to attend meetings to ensure inclusive participation.
- Manage conflicts and support through emotionally challenging conversations during the meetings.
- Collaborate with departmental staff, Independent Persons, and interpreters as necessary to support the process.
- Keep thorough records of case plans and other pertinent details following departmental policies.
