Overview

We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join NHS Supply Chain, an essential organisation that supports patient care throughout England and Wales. This senior executive role collaborates closely with the CEO and Executive Team to influence strategic decisions and ensure the organisation delivers exceptional value, efficiency, and innovative solutions for the NHS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the CEO, Board, and Executive Team to define and implement strategic objectives, ensuring necessary resources and capabilities are aligned to long-term goals.
  • Serve as a prominent representative of NHS Supply Chain, cultivating and maintaining strong partnerships with government bodies, NHS entities, regulators, and industry players.
  • Drive transformation and innovation initiatives to enhance organisational performance and secure future readiness.
  • Lead and empower teams to build a culture of accountability, inclusion, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee organisational performance through integrated planning, reporting, and performance management systems that underpin effective governance and decision-making.
  • Promote financial efficiency and value for money, optimising the use of resources to benefit patients, clients, and the broader NHS.
  • Provide executive oversight of Finance, Data & Technology, Performance, Legal, Governance, and Risk functions, ensuring cohesive and high-impact operations.
  • Establish and maintain robust governance, risk management, and assurance frameworks to safeguard organisational interests and foster sustainable success.

NHS Supply Chain supports the NHS by sourcing and delivering medical products, services, and food to healthcare facilities across England and Wales. Serving all NHS Trusts, it operates a national distribution network managing relationships with over a thousand suppliers, handling more than 8 million orders annually to over 17,000 sites, allowing NHS personnel to focus on delivering excellent patient care.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrable executive financial leadership in a sizeable, complex organisation with a formal accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Proven expertise in engaging with Boards, government agencies, regulators, auditors, and senior stakeholders effectively.
  • Wide-ranging knowledge of corporate governance, assurance, and risk management to ensure compliance and sound organisational decision-making.
  • Experience managing organisational transformation, performance measurement, and continuous improvement efforts, leveraging data insights to enhance accountability and excellence.
  • Strong familiarity with data management, technology, information governance, and cybersecurity, including serving as a Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO).

Additional Information

This permanent position is based in the UK with flexible working arrangements and requires willingness to travel across the country as needed. The starting annual salary is £191,681, complemented by a competitive bonus scheme and comprehensive benefits.
