Certified Cancer Registrar

About the Role

We are recruiting a Certified Cancer Registrar to join our team at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's Cancer Data Services department in High Point, NC. This full-time role involves precise and thorough abstraction of cancer patient records, ensuring compliance with national protocols, and facilitating reporting and quality analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Meticulously review pathology reports for correct AJCC cancer staging and adherence to CAP protocols along with physician staging documentation.
• Abstract cancer registry data consistent with industry-standard coding systems including AJCC, ICD-O, SEER, Collaborative Staging, and Facility Registry Data Standards.
• Submit cancer data timely and accurately to the National Cancer Database (NCDB) and State Tumor Registry; generate monthly departmental reports.
• Conduct monthly quality assurance audits of Radiation Oncology, chemotherapy, and diagnostic data to verify accuracy and compliance.
• Contribute to Tumor Board multidisciplinary conferences by documenting clinical discussions, treatment plans, and decisions.
• Uphold compliance with American College of Surgeons (ACOS)/Commission on Cancer accreditation standards.
• Assist with daily cancer registry operations and provide managerial coverage as needed.
• Engage in community cancer education, outreach, screening, and support initiatives.
• Promote a positive work culture through collaboration, professionalism, and effective communication.
• Adhere to organizational standards covering safety, service quality, accountability, continuous improvement, HIPAA, corporate compliance, credential maintenance, and mandatory trainings.
• Perform additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate Degree in Health Science or related field preferred.
• Certified Cancer Registrar credential mandatory.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in cancer registry work.

Desired Knowledge and Skills

• Strong understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
• Expertise in AJCC and SEER staging systems.
• Familiarity with ICO-3 manual, Collaborative Staging, Multiple Primary Histology Manual, and COC FORDS manual.
• Working knowledge of ACOS accreditation criteria.
• Proficiency in cancer data software platforms.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and investigative abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with effective time management.

Work Schedule and Compensation

• Full-time position with 40 hours per week scheduled Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
• Pay range from $26.55 to $39.85 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
