Job description

Role Overview

The Registrar plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth, organized, and prompt pre-admission and admission processes for patients at the Cancer Center.

Key Duties

  • Accurately and promptly input patients' financial and demographic information into computer systems.
  • Collect necessary signatures and create copies or scan all identification and insurance documentation presented; document reasons if such information is unavailable.
  • Confirm and record insurance benefits and coverage. Obtain any needed pre-certifications, referrals, or authorizations per benefit requirements or contracts. Communicate financial responsibilities clearly to patients or guarantors.
  • Adhere to Front End Collections policies diligently.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with patients, physicians, hospital staff, and other stakeholders.

Compliance and Standards

  • Maintain performance, financial goals, and patient and employee satisfaction as defined in evaluations.
  • Comply with all requirements outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Follow DCH Behavioral Standards which emphasize fostering positive relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and self.
  • Perform essential duties to ensure safety for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Identify and mitigate unsafe practices that could cause harm.
  • Take action to reduce risks and hazards promoting safety.
  • Utilize electronic mail, attendance software, learning management systems, and intranet regularly.
  • Follow all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • Complete any additional tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school education or equivalent.
  • Strong clerical skills, including typing proficiency of at least 20 words per minute; computer skills preferred.
  • Ability to maintain courteous and effective interactions with others, even in stressful conditions.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette and customer service abilities.
  • Previous healthcare experience and familiarity with basic medical terminology are advantageous.
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
