Position Overview

RVS is seeking a full-time Building Operator I for the Beiseker Community School, located in Beiseker, Alberta. This continuing position involves working 40 hours per week in afternoon shifts, reporting to the Head Building Operator (HBO). The role primarily involves caretaking duties to maintain the school building’s cleanliness and physical condition. The Building Operator will serve as the evening supervisor, managing a team responsible for the upkeep and security of the school’s facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive janitorial tasks, including cleaning the school building and surrounding grounds, which constitutes roughly 90% of the role.
• Document and report any defects, damages, or loss of school property to the HBO.
• Coordinate cleaning schedules and duties for caretaking staff as needed.
• Ensure sidewalks, steps, and building entrances are cleared of snow and ice as assigned.
• Maintain appropriate building temperatures during shifts.
• Monitor and inspect heating, plumbing, and electrical systems; promptly communicate any problems to the HBO.
• Carry out security-related duties as assigned.
• Support the HBO by training new employees and relief workers.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Completion of high school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
• Between 1 to 3 years of supervisory experience, ideally within a caretaking environment.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in caretaking or cleaning roles.
• Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 operator's license.
• Holding a Building Operator A or B Ticket, or a 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate is advantageous.
• Certifications from professional cleaning organizations are considered beneficial.
• Experience working within a school division is a plus.
• Familiarity with correct cleaning protocols and hygiene standards.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
• Ability to function effectively independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Demonstrated supervisory prowess, including training and delegation capabilities.

Additional Conditions

• Availability to work afternoon and evening shifts during peak annual periods.
• Willingness to work scheduled day shifts approximately 1-2 days per month and during school breaks (Winter, Spring, Summer).
