Job description
About the Organisation
NHS Scotland is dedicated to building a workforce that reflects the diversity of society and actively prevents unlawful discrimination. The organisation aims to make every employee feel valued, respected, and able to perform at their best. Applications are encouraged from people of all backgrounds.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran is one of the 14 territorial NHS Boards within NHS Scotland and works toward its core purpose of helping everyone in Ayrshire and Arran achieve the healthiest life possible. The organisation promotes a culture that is caring, safe, and respectful, and expects staff to work collaboratively in that way.
Role Overview
An opportunity has become available for a Band 6 Radiographer in the Medical Imaging department at University Hospital Ayr. This post offers the chance to support a service that is expanding, with longer MRI and CT operating hours and rising demand across imaging modalities.
The base hospital for this role is University Hospital Ayr, although you may also be required to work at other NHS Ayrshire and Arran sites as needed.
Working Pattern
This is a permanent part-time position. The service requires a flexible approach, as the department’s needs can change quickly. You must be willing to take part in a 24/7 service, including out-of-hours work and weekend shifts. These duties may carry a significant commitment depending on service demand and will be rostered across 7 days.
From 1 April 2026, the standard working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will reduce from 37 to 36 hours for full-time staff, with part-time hours reduced proportionately and no reduction in pay.
Main Purpose of the Job
In this role, you will help deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging services and support both planned and urgent care pathways. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
Experience and Qualifications
Applicants should bring broad general radiography experience, and preferably substantial post-graduate experience gained within the NHS. A BSc (Hons), or an equivalent qualification, in Diagnostic Radiography or Imaging Services is essential, along with current HCPC registration. You should also demonstrate a clear commitment to continuing professional development.
Driver Requirement
A full UK driving licence is required for this post.
Right to Work and Sponsorship
To work in the United Kingdom, applicants must have the legal right to work in the country. This must be confirmed before applying. You should only submit an application if you already have the appropriate right to work in the UK, or if the role is eligible for sponsorship.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran may be able to sponsor certain roles if the post meets the minimum salary threshold and other required criteria. For part-time roles, salary is assessed on a pro-rata basis against the full-time rate. Sponsorship is never guaranteed and is decided individually after interview and during pre-employment checks.
Sponsorship is not available for Band 2 posts or bank contracts.
