Band 5 Assistant Psychologist - Older People's Mental Health Services

Overview

We are recruiting Band 5 Assistant Psychologists to join the Dementia & Frailty psychology team within the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. These fixed-term roles are based at The Juniper Centre in Moseley, Birmingham, providing mental health services to a culturally and socially diverse population. The positions focus on supporting older adults experiencing mental health challenges, including individuals living with dementia.

Available Positions and Teams

• One post combining South Hub Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and Care Home Liaison Team (CHLT) supporting care home residents with mental health conditions and dementia to prevent hospitalization and placement breakdown.
• One position in the Community Enablement and Recovery Team (CERT) offering intensive community support aimed at admission prevention and timely discharge facilitation.
• One role on Rosemary Suite, an inpatient ward specializing in assessment and treatment for women predominantly living with dementia.

Role Responsibilities

The assistant psychologist will actively contribute to delivering direct clinical care to patients, their families, and carers, encouraging access to evidence-based psychological interventions. This includes supporting psychologically informed assessments and protocols within a multidisciplinary framework. The role involves regular travel for home visits and community meetings.

Staff take part in quality improvement projects focused on recovery enhancement, restrictive practice reduction, and facilitating least restrictive care.
