Role Overview

The Baker position demands the preparation of various bakery products including sweet and savory items for bagged lunches and daily menu services within a camp environment. Working with culinary leadership, the Baker plans production and ensures quality that aligns with contractual expectations.

Working Conditions and Accommodations

  • Meals and accommodations are fully provided.
  • Travel arrangements to and from the site are covered from designated locations such as Winnipeg and Thunder Bay.
  • Private rooms include cable TV and Wi-Fi access.
  • Laundry facilities with detergents, a gym, and communal areas are available on site.

Key Duties

  • Prepare scratch and pre-made bakery products including cookies, pastries, cakes, pies, and savory items for service.
  • Handle dough and other bakery preparations as assigned.
  • Maintain strict adherence to food safety protocols and complete all required HACCP and production documentation.
  • Label and date all bakery products appropriately.
  • Manage the front-of-house bakery area and ensure cleanliness.
  • Transport utensils and cookware to dishwashing areas and perform thorough end-of-shift cleaning.
  • Receive, inspect, and store all supplies, including food, beverages, chemicals, and disposables.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Food Safe certification is mandatory.
  • Experience cooking in large-scale camp settings is essential.
  • Red Seal or similar certification is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to maintain accurate weekly inventories.
  • High standards to keep the kitchen clean and orderly.
  • Self-motivated team player capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid government-issued photo ID for site access and successful completion of a criminal background check are required.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, navigate ladders or stairs, perform repetitive hand tasks, and work with arms raised or extended.

Additional Details

  • Schedule operates on a two-week on / two-week off rotation with potential shifts during nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Remuneration starts at $22.48 per hour, paid hourly.
