The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization dedicated to saving lives and lessening disease burdens in low- and middle-income countries by supporting governments and private sectors to establish and maintain high-quality health systems. Founded in 2002 to tackle the HIV/AIDS epidemic by reducing prices and improving access to essential medications, CHAI has since broadened its scope to address diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, hepatitis, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases. Global Markets Team and Women’s and Newborn Health (WNH) Division

The CHAI Global Markets Team (GMT) works to develop healthier marketplaces by creating sustainable access to essential medical commodities. This includes designing and implementing strategic market-shaping approaches like pooled procurement, strategic demand forecasting, volume guarantees, advance market commitments, and financial mechanisms to make critical health products accessible and affordable in low- and middle-income countries. Notable achievements include significant price reductions for hepatitis treatment, HIV self-tests, COVID-19 rapid tests, and contraceptive implants, as well as notable supply agreements in Kenya.

Within GMT, the WNH team is focused on increasing affordable, high-quality women’s and newborn health products in LMICs, supporting secure supplies, and fostering professional growth in a merit-based, supportive environment.

Position Summary

The Associate (or Senior Associate) role supports the WNH market shaping initiatives by spearheading the analytical efforts necessary to design and implement effective strategies ensuring an adequate supply of crucial commodities. Key tasks include gathering and analyzing data from multiple sources—including government tenders, shipment records from manufacturers and buyers, demographic surveys, and country usage reports—to develop detailed market analyses such as demand forecasting. This role informs major strategic decisions on capacity building, product scale-up, and overcoming market barriers for WNH commodities.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain databases, analytical models, and frameworks to identify priority market-shaping actions.
• Conduct comprehensive market landscape reviews and profile product manufacturers to spot opportunities to enhance quality-assured supply chains.
• Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to review market conditions, supplier environments, manufacturing economics, and procurement trends across product lines.
• Analyze factors influencing costs to support pricing strategies and supplier negotiation efforts.
• Monitor product availability, regulatory registrations, and supplier performance across key markets, working closely with regulatory and country teams to facilitate product launch and expansion.
• Contribute to developing and executing supply-side interventions like pooled procurement, regional production, and risk management to boost affordability, availability, and supply sustainability.
• Work with internal teams across levels to assess feasibility and potential impact of market-shaping strategies, utilizing standardized methods and frameworks.
• Synthesize diverse qualitative and quantitative information to craft strategy recommendations and clear communication materials for a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Present analytical findings and strategic insights to audiences including donors, governmental bodies, manufacturers, and global partners.
• Maintain effective, collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders within CHAI and partner organizations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the team leadership.

Candidate Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of analytical or business experience for Associate level; Senior Associate level requires at least 6 years.
• Proven strategic thinking ability with comfort operating amid ambiguity in fast-paced, culturally diverse environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of developing engaging presentations and reports, and conveying complex analyses to senior stakeholders and donors effectively.
• Demonstrated project management skills encompassing prioritization, planning, and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to cultivate collaborative working relationships with both peers and senior professionals, internally and externally.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; experience with R is required, and familiarity with Tableau or Power BI is advantageous.
• Experience leading workstreams independently and working remotely within dispersed teams is preferred.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
• Fluent English communication skills, both spoken and written.
