Role Summary
The Associate Staff Writer for Allure will be pivotal in generating engaging beauty and wellness content spanning news, trends, service features, and opinion pieces for all of Allure’s verticals. This reporter maintains a pulse on current beauty innovations, product launches, and industry insights through direct connections with professionals and social media monitoring.
Primary Duties
- Produce a variety of articles monthly, including fresh and updated news, service-oriented, opinion, and trend stories.
- Collaborate with senior editorial leaders to design a content calendar balancing seasonal relevance and evergreen appeal for audience engagement.
- Pitch timely stories inspired by pop culture and current trends viewed through the lens of beauty and wellness.
- Build and sustain professional relationships with a diverse range of experts such as hairstylists, makeup artists, dermatologists, psychologists, and chemists to enrich reporting.
- Contribute content to the Melanin Edit franchise, including monthly stories and the weekly newsletter.
- Partner with audience development teams to creatively amplify article visibility across newsletters, social media platforms, and search tools.
- Represent the Allure brand at events and in public relations situations as needed.
- Participate in on-camera appearances for commerce-related user-generated content, social media, video features, and branded campaigns.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Two to three years of journalistic experience focusing on beauty topics.
- Proven skills in research, writing, and rapid story production in dynamic environments.
- Knowledge of SEO tools including Keyword Finder, Clearscope, and Google Analytics to enhance content reach.
- Comprehensive understanding of hair care products and their performance metrics such as moisture, curl definition, hold, shine, frizz control, scalp comfort, and hair health.
- A distinctive and compelling writing style with a strong editorial voice.
- Interest in pop culture, internet trends, and contemporary issues with unique perspectives and opinions.
- Creativity in generating original story ideas.
- Excellent communication, organizational prowess, and collaboration skills.
- Openness to learning, accepting feedback, and utilizing data-driven decision-making to refine content quality.
