Associate, Natural Resources (Mining & Energy) - Investment Banking

Role overview

In this Sydney-based Associate role within the Natural Resources coverage group of Global Investment Banking, you will support metals, mining, and energy clients across Australia and international markets. The position is part of a globally connected platform, working closely with teams across J.P. Morgan’s network. The bank is recognized as a leading investment banking adviser in Australia, with a strong track record in domestic and cross-border transactions as well as capital markets work.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute end-to-end to transaction execution, including pitch preparation, financial analysis, committee materials, and client-facing presentations.
• Take an active role in driving execution work, partnering with analysts and other associates while supporting senior bankers.
• Apply solid investment banking knowledge across major product and execution areas, with the potential to progress into a role that originates and executes transactions independently.
• Show strong commitment to the firm’s mission and demonstrate enthusiasm for contributing to its growth.
• Collaborate with a regional team of more than 100 analysts and associates and participate in live deal activity, which may involve regular travel.

Required background and capabilities

• At least 4 years of prior experience in an investment banking front-office position.
• Strong academic credentials from a highly regarded educational institution.
• Advanced financial modelling capability.
• Clear understanding of the transaction lifecycle and an execution-focused approach.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with senior professionals, clients, and stakeholders across other business lines.
• Self-motivated, independent, and able to work with limited supervision.
