Department overview

The Mergers & Acquisitions group partners with sector coverage teams to structure and execute a broad mix of complex transactions, including work across Healthcare, Consumer & Retail, Industrials and other areas.

Role summary

This Sydney-based position is an expression of interest for a possible upcoming Associate opportunity within the M&A team. The successful candidate will contribute to a varied pipeline of transactions, support business development across public and private markets, work alongside senior bankers and clients, and help direct analysts.

Core responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the day-to-day execution workstream for M&A transactions.
  • Support and coach analysts on financial modelling, as well as financial and industry analysis.
  • Develop client-facing marketing materials and internal reporting documents.
  • Review analyst output carefully and ensure a high standard of quality.
  • Coordinate project activity with clients and other parties involved in the process, including legal and accounting advisors.
  • Build and present client presentations in a clear, persuasive manner.

Experience and skill expectations

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in investment banking, with a strong record of executing or leading M&A transactions at another financial institution; candidates from sector coverage teams with relevant M&A experience may also be considered.
  • Strong academic results and a consistent history of achievement.
  • Advanced quantitative, analytical and financial modelling capability, along with a solid grasp of accounting, financial and operational principles.
  • A high standard of delivery with a strong focus on quality and excellence.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
