Assistant Psychologist - Clinical Research

Role Overview

We invite applications for an Assistant Psychologist position on a fixed-term basis to join the Oxford Cognitive Approaches to Psychosis (O-CAP) clinical psychology research team. The successful candidate will support the implementation of psychological treatments within randomized controlled trials targeting individuals diagnosed with psychosis.

Clinical Trials

The post involves delivering two remote interventions: Feeling Safer, a six-month supported online programme for patients experiencing persecutory delusions, and Sleeping Better, a 12-week remotely delivered intervention aimed at improving sleep for patients with psychosis and young people at ultra-high risk of psychosis. Both treatments are conducted through the National Virtual Clinic.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the Feeling Safer and Sleeping Better interventions according to treatment manuals and study protocols under clinical psychologist supervision.
• Develop and maintain a trusting, supportive rapport with participants to ensure high engagement levels.
• Assist in screening and recruiting patients for both trials, including regular liaison with referrers, clinical teams, and Research Delivery Network staff.
• Check patient eligibility and provide clear explanations of the trials to potential participants.
• Complete eligibility screening assessments and obtain informed consent from participants.
• Attend and actively contribute to study fidelity meetings, supervision sessions, and regular training with the study team.
• Maintain accurate documentation including medical records and study databases.

About the Team

The post is based in-person at the O-CAP team base within the Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford. The team comprises approximately 40 clinical researchers dedicated to understanding and improving psychological treatments for mental health problems.
