Role overview
The Waste Management Division works on regulating Singapore’s waste management industry and delivering key initiatives under the Zero Waste Master Plan, with the aim of building an efficient and sustainable system that turns waste into resources.
Within the division, the Waste Collection Department administers the Public Waste Collection scheme, oversees General Waste Collectors, implements requirements for Pneumatic Waste Conveyance Systems and the Code of Practice, and takes enforcement action when legislative or licensing rules are breached to ensure waste is collected properly for disposal or recycling.
This position suits someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment that combines desk-based duties with fieldwork. The role focuses on managing General Waste Collectors and enforcing rules related to general waste collection offences.
Key duties
- Handle public feedback and questions relating to general waste collection.
- Carry out site visits to look into general waste collection issues.
- Investigate offences involving general waste collection and prepare recommendation reports for enforcement action.
- Work with licensees, premises managers, owners, and members of the public on general waste collection matters.
- Administer the internal software platform used for licensee data and document submissions.
- Verify and check information and supporting documents submitted by licensees through the internal system.
- Analyse data and prepare reports for supervisors.
- Support other tasks, projects, and events as needed.
Requirements
- A diploma in an environmental-related discipline is preferred.
- Comfort with technology and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to work on your own initiative and handle tasks independently.
- Self-motivated mindset with a willingness to keep improving.
- Good planning and time-management skills to meet deadlines for inspections, enforcement reports, and submission reviews.
- Experience in field enforcement or investigations will be an advantage.
- Careful, detail-focused, and capable of analytical thinking.
- Strong team player with clear verbal and written communication skills; Mandarin-speaking ability is an advantage.
- Willingness to work outdoors, on weekends, and beyond normal hours when required.
- Preferably holds a Class 3 driving licence and is willing to drive the company passenger van for outdoor assignments.
- Genuine interest in waste management and environmental matters.
- Flexible and adaptable in response to changing operational needs.
- May be asked to complete a medical declaration and/or additional assessments during shortlisting.
