Role Overview

Based at the Dorking branch, the Art Teacher will be responsible for teaching classes and assisting with studio operations. Time will be divided approximately as 75% teaching and preparation, and 25% administrative tasks and promotional activities. Comprehensive training on teaching methods is provided along with ongoing support from a national network of art educators.

Work Schedule

• Term Time: 23.5 hours/week with the following timetable:
  • Monday: 6:30pm–9:30pm
  • Tuesday: 3:30pm–9:30pm
  • Wednesday: 12:00pm–6:00pm
  • Thursday: 9:30am–6:00pm
• School Holidays (14 weeks/year): Same total hours worked Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, with daily schedules adjusted based on studio requirements.

Compensation and Start

The salary is fixed and will grow as the studio expands, with promotional opportunities each term. Performance-related bonuses are awarded, details of which are disclosed during the probation period and prorated for part-year employment. The role commences on 10/08/2026. Only candidates who can commit to the full schedule and start date will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver enjoyable and skill-based art lessons tailored to individual student needs, fostering child development within a supportive environment.
• Assess and monitor student progress, developing customized learning plans.
• Maintain strong, communicative relationships with students and their parents including providing progress updates.
• Engage in ongoing professional development through a two-year training program focused on teaching techniques, artistic skills, child development, and business administration, with additional training as needed.
• Assist in studio management duties, including material procurement and oversight of assistants to align with studio goals.
• Track studio performance metrics such as growth, retention, and customer service standards.
• Build community connections and coordinate promotional events with the studio team.
• Manage customer enquiries using the booking system in adherence to GDPR policies.
• Strictly follow child safeguarding and health & safety protocols at all times.

Candidate Profile

• Possession of an art degree or equivalent artistic experience across various mediums.
• Prior experience teaching or working creatively with children in educational or similar settings.
• Excellent communication and empathetic skills enabling engagement with students, parents, and colleagues.
• A proactive and positive approach with capability to work both independently and collaboratively.
