Job description

Assignment overview

This is a short-term online volunteering assignment focused on researching UN programmes in Yemen, mapping funding patterns, and identifying partnership opportunities. It is task-based, remote, and non-contractual. Online Volunteers are not UN Volunteers and do not receive pay, allowances, or other entitlements. On successful completion, a certificate of appreciation is issued. UNV is not part of the selection process or any collaboration arrangement.

Context

The assignment supports stronger strategic decision-making and partnership development within the UN system in Yemen. The resulting analysis is intended to provide evidence-based insights that can inform future cooperation and volunteer mobilization in support of sustainable development goals.

Assignment details

Country: Yemen. Modality: Online. Duration: 10 weeks. Weekly commitment: 16 to 20 hours. Number of assignments: 2.

Tasks

  • Examine publicly available material from UN agencies active in Yemen, such as websites, country programme documents, annual reports, strategic frameworks, and communications.
  • Assess United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks, Country Programme Documents, strategic plans, and related planning documents.
  • Chart current programmes, projects, and thematic priorities across UN agencies in Yemen.
  • Compile and structure information on programme goals, focus areas, timelines, implementation periods, key activities, expected results, budget details and funding information where available, HR policy and contractual matters including third-party HR supply, and geographic reach and target groups.
  • Draft short analytical notes that highlight strategic insights and main findings.
  • Produce a comprehensive programme and partnership intelligence matrix for the selected UN agencies in Yemen.
  • Prepare an analytical summary covering development priorities, funding trends, programme focus areas, and collaboration opportunities.
  • Deliver a final briefing report with key findings, observations, and recommendations.

Mission and objectives

The UN Volunteers programme works to advance human development worldwide by promoting volunteerism and mobilizing volunteers. It is administered by UNDP, and its value is increasingly recognized for building more cohesive societies through trust, reciprocity, and social as well as economic contributions.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in programme management or development studies.
  • Strong analytical ability and critical thinking.
  • Experience using data collection and information management tools.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Excel, Word, and online collaboration platforms.
  • Interest in international development, humanitarian work, partnerships, or UN programming.

Language requirement

English at basic level is desirable.
