Job description
Role overview
This is a 12-month contractor engagement with full-time hours, focused on German-language AI quality evaluation. The work supports Canva’s broader mission of improving how people experience design, and it is intended for candidates based in Germany so collaboration and team support can be maintained effectively.
What you will do
- Review, label, and assess photos, graphics, videos, stickers, and design assets in German, with attention to language quality, correctness, and cultural fit.
- Judge AI-generated outputs against Canva’s quality expectations for German users and help define how AI experiences should feel in the language.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of German-specific datasets that support localisation and AI product development.
- Complete labeled work within deadlines and meet throughput expectations across different task categories and guidelines.
- Check your own work, incorporate feedback, and improve consistency and accuracy over time.
- Work with internal Data Labelling teams in the Philippines and across the EU to keep quality standards aligned.
What makes someone a strong fit
- You are a native German speaker and communicate confidently in written and spoken English.
- You have a sharp eye for detail and can spot issues, mismatches, and inconsistencies quickly.
- You can organise your own workload and handle several active projects at once without needing close supervision.
- You learn new instructions quickly and can apply updated rules consistently across different task types.
- You are interested in AI and motivated by the challenge of building better language experiences for German users.
- You are comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities and tasks can change regularly.
Team context
The Localisation team is part of Canva’s International Supergroup and works to adapt Canva’s product and AI experiences for users around the world in their own languages. Because international users make up nearly 60% of Canva’s user base, localisation is a major strategic focus. The team partners with AI Research and AI Platform to deliver in-language evaluation, dataset creation, and quality assurance for key markets, and it is growing dedicated language-specific capacity to support this work.
Additional information
Hiring decisions for contractor roles are based on experience, skills, and passion. If you express interest in the project, you will be asked to share your pronouns and note any reasonable adjustments needed for the contractor-accreditation interview process. These accreditation meetings are held virtually. Canva welcomes a wide range of backgrounds and skills, and encourages applications even if your experience does not perfectly match every listed point.
