About the Role
This is a full-time contractual position based at Spring Grove Hospital Center in Catonsville, Maryland, the State of Maryland's largest psychiatric hospital with 377 beds, located on a spacious 180-acre wooded campus. The hospital offers a collegiate atmosphere close to DC, Baltimore, and the BWI airport. The mission is to deliver quality mental health services to the State's residents. Primary Responsibilities
Under general supervision and in partnership with the Director of Environment of Care, the incumbent will apply knowledge of fire prevention, health, and safety regulations to ensure a secure environment for patients, staff, visitors, and tenants throughout the hospital campus. The position is emergency essential and does not have supervisory duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent state certificate.
- At least two years' experience in safety inspection, investigation, or fire prevention.
- College coursework or degree in fire protection/science or occupational health and safety technology can substitute for up to two years of experience on a year-for-year basis.
- U.S. Armed Forces service as a non-commissioned officer in relevant Occupational Health and Safety roles may also substitute experience equivalently.
Licenses and Special Requirements
- Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in Maryland if driving duties are assigned.
- Must provide a reachable telephone contact.
- Subject to 24-hour call-in availability.
Selection and Application Process

Benefits
Contractual employees working 30+ hours per week may qualify for subsidized health benefits, covering 75% of medical and prescription premiums (employee pays 25%). Optional dental, accidental death and dismemberment, and life insurance are fully employee paid. Leave accrues at one hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours annually.
